The objects of the invention are to provide a bag particularly adapted for carrying an auxiliary container; to provide an auxiliary container which is readily accessible at all times; to avoid mi the necessity of opening the bag for removing which like numeralsl of reference indicate simi-V lar parts throughout the several views;

In the specific embodiment of the invention illustrated in said drawing, the reference numeral 1 indicates the pouch portion of a bag which in this instance has been shown as of the envelop type. The bag, may, however be constructed in any suitable manner, and the particular showing herein of the chosen bag is merely because of nev cessity to show some bag regardless of its detailed construction.

According to one feature of the present invention, an auxiliary container 2 is to be-carried in the pouch and is to be inserted thereinto or Withdrawn therefrom through an opening 3 in the end l'of the pouch as distinguished from the usual top opening 4 of the pouch. In this connection it looking at the rightmay be stated that the bag preferably includes a nap 5 by which the usual top opening 4 of the 4pouch may be normally closed. In order to insert or withdraw the auxiliary container 2, it is unnecessary, in accordance with the present invention to uncover said usual opening 4 of the pouch or to raise or otherwise disturb the normal Yclosed position of ap 5. 5G" In the preferred adaptation of the invention as illustrated, the bag includes end members or gussets 6, constituting opposite ends for the pouch. These gussets enable the pouch to ex- .,pand when contents are inserted in the pouch. According to my invention, an intermediate gussetj 7-r'is providedy constituting a .dividing wall soY that' the-pouch provides a pair of pocketsL-Bx oneofw-hich-is adjacentA one-end gusset andthe other which is adjacent the other end gusset. This feature of having an intermediate gusset 'l w1 similar to and disposed between end gussets is per se an important feature of the present invention and an advance in hand-bag construction, affording individual compartments thelling of any one of which does not tend to 'crush contents of a another. It is furthermore of especial advantage in connection with the above described construction inwhich an auxiliary container 2 is inserted through an opening 3 in one end gusset 6. When such arrangementis provided, as shown, the con- 7b3 'tainer will then be positioned within the pocket 8 next to that end gusset having opening 3. The other pocket is undisturbedby introduction or withdrawal of the auxiliary container in the rst mentioned pocket, and its contents are not subject to loss or likely to be spilled from the gusset opening 3 during the timeV said auxiliary container is removed.

Means are preferably provided for retaining the auxiliary container assembled within the gg:- pouch except when it is desired to remove the container for use. As one means for accomplishing this purpose, I have shown a strap or tab 9 secured to or forming an integral part of the auxiliary container, said tab having an outer end 855m :which may be swung around to one face of the bag and temporarily secured thereon by means of a snap fastener l0. As here shown, the end margin of the flap 5 is cut away at l1 so that said tab 9 may be brought into direct engagement with the pouch surface a major part of which is beneath flap 5. For convenience this side ofthe bag will be considered its front and it will thus be noted that both the flap and the tab are at the front of the bag and that each may be manipulated without disturbing the other. Tab 9 constitutes means by which the container may be withdrawn as well as means for` securing the container Within the bag. It will be understood that the container is especially adapted for such im) uses as a cigarette case, powder case,r change container, and the like and has the very desirable advantage of being adapted to complete detachment and removal from the bag so that the -oWner of the bag does not have to hold same open or expose the contents of the bag when either jextracting the auxiliary container or while using the same.
