Application October 18, 1933, Serial No. 694,188 In France December 8, 1932 1. Claim.
The present invention relates to rectilinear combing machines of the Heilmann type, used for combing wool, ramie, schappe, artificial silk and other similar fibres, and more particularly "of the type having an oscillating nipper and stationary drawing-off means. Its object is a combination of the device regulating the distance between the nipper and the drawing-01f rollers .....with a mechanism enabling the main parts of "the machine such as the circular comb, the burrknife combined therewith, the nipper, the shovel plate etc. to be readily accessible, by a single action, for regulation, maintenance or replacement, while ensuring that when such operation has been completed the various parts can be immediately restored to their proper relative positions.
To this end the drawing-01f mechanism while normally fixed is mounted on movable supporting members and combined with guiding means, stops and locking means serving to fix and to lock the drawing-off mechanism in normal position, while to give easy access to the operative .,parts of the machine, they permit the drawing- "01f mechanism to be retracted in a single movement and over a relatively considerable distance, the said supporting members being preferably pivotally mounted so as to allow displacement ,,of the drawing-off mechanism substantially along 'the direction the silver takes during drawing-off.
An example embodying the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing. Figures 1 and 2 are side elevations, partly in section, thereof for different positions of the parts. Figure 3 is a section on the line ab of Figure 2.
The circular comb 1 is only indicated diagrammatically. The lower and upper nipper jaws 2, 3 are shown in open position, corresponding to the period of drawing-off of the fibres.
9.11 eye 12 to which is attached a threaded rod 13 which passes through a tube 14. The latter can slide in a split clamp 15, of which Figure 3 shows a section on line a-b of Figure 2. Each clamp 15 (Figure 3) carries a stalk 16 pivotting "in a hole in the corresponding frame 11; a screw 17 enables the tube 14 to be gripped by the clamp 15.
The dotted line 18 indicates the position occupied by the sliver of fibres during the drawingoif period. The distance e between the nip of the rollers 5, 6 and the lower nipper jaw 2, i. e. the setting of the machine must be adjustable to suit the nature of the material to be combed, by changing the position of the drawing-off rollers 5, 6, and the latter for this purpose should be moved in a direction parallel to the line 18. 'It is important therefore to locate the pivots 10 of the arms 9 on a line 19 extending from the nip of the rollers 5, 6 at a right angle to the line 18 when the drawing-off rollers are in mid-position with respect to the nipper jaw 2, and to locate these pivots as far as possible from the drawing-off rollers so that the small displacements of the rollers concentric to the pivots 10 are practically along the line 18 Each threaded rod 13 carries in addition to the tube 14, two regulating nuts 20 with washers 21. To vary the setting distance e it sufiices to adjust the nuts 20 which produces a swinging of the assembly 5, 6, 8, 9 about the pivots 10.
Loosening of the clamping screws on the other hand permits the tubes 14 to slide freely in the clamps 15 between the positions limited by the washers 21 and this enables the support 8 and the drawing-01f rollers to be moved or withdrawn into the position shown in Figure 2. The rollers and their support are thus moved a considerable distance apart from the other machine parts which facilitates access to the circular comb, the nipper and other parts associated therewith.
A special device is provided for facilitating this withdrawal of the drawing-01f rollers. This device consists of a shaft 22 borne in both the frames 11 of the machine, two arms 23 fastened on this shaft and coupled by connecting rods 24 to the support 8 carrying the drawing-off rollers 5, 6. A lever 25 terminating in a handle 26 and keyed upon the shaft 22, enables the assembly consisting of the support 8, the arms 9 and the rollers 5, 6 to be easily displaced, when the clamping screws 17 are loosened. The original position of the rollers 5, 6 with respect to the nipper jaw 2 is restored when by manipulating the lever 25, 26 the washers 21 (Figure 1) abut the clamps 15. Tightening of the screws 17 then locks the parts in this position.
It is obvious that other combined mechanisms for regulating and manipulating the drawingoif rollers could be designed, different from that illustrated by way of example in the drawing.
sisting of movable supporting members carryingthe drawing-off mechanism and pivotally mounted at a relatively great distance apart from the drawing-01f mechanism, guiding rods connected to said supporting members, guide tubes thereon, pivotally mounted clamps for said tubes and adjustable stops on said rods, these parts serving to fix and to lock the drawing-off mechanism in normal position, while to give easy access to the operative parts of the machine, they permit the drawing-off mechanism to be retracted in a single movement and over a relatively considerable distance apart from the other operative parts of the machine, for the purpose specified.
HENRI DOLDER.
