4 Claims. (CL 4289) This invention relates to reloading devices for revolvers and particularly to a reloading cartridge clip.
The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved reloading cartridge clip for revolvers whereby all of the cylinder chambers may be simultaneously loaded; to provide such a cartridge clip from which all of the cartridges are simultaneously released by a single operation and inserted into the cylinder chambers of the revolver; to provide an improved cartridge clip of novel construction wherein the cartridges are positively locked against accidental release from the clip; and to provide a device of this character which is extremely durable and simple in its mechanical makeup, and which device may be readily attached to a cartridge belt or the like.
A specific embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:

In the form shown in the drawing, the improved cartridge clip or reloader comprises a cartridge holder or container 1, embodying a series of cartridge receiving tubes 2 arranged in annular or circular formation and providing six cartridge chambers 3. While the holder 1 has been shown provided with six cartridge chambers, it will be understood that the number of cartridge chambers may vary in accordance with the number of cylinder chambers provided in the particular revolver for which the device may be intended.
As will be observed in Figs. 1 and 2, the holder 1 is proportioned so that the tapered ends of the cartridges 4 project slightly beyond the lower end of the holder when the cartridges are posi-- tioned and gripped or locked therein. Secured in the upper or inner end of each of the annular series of cartridge receiving tubes 2 is a car tridge stop or bumper 5 against which the bases of the cartridges 4 abut when slid into the chambers 3 and, as will be observed in Fig. 3, this stop or bumper 5, which is preferably of leather or other resilient material, traverses the axes of the tubes 2.
Mounted at the upper end of the holder 1 and secured to the upper or inner ends of the cartridge tubes 2 is a disc-shaped head plate 6 of a diameter equal to the greatest diameter of the holder 1. The head plate 6 serves to close off the inner ends of the cartridge tubes 2 and is provided with a centrally disposed boss 7 having a central aperture therein extending through the head plate 6.
Carried by and secured to the upper side of the boss 7, one for each of the cartridge receiving tubes 2, is a series of axially disposed spring cartridge clips or grippers 8 which engage or grip the rim 9 of the cartridges for holding the cartridges in the chambers 3.
The boss 7 is provided on its upper side with an annular groove 10 marginally surrounding the aperture, and positioned in the aperture is 2.

The cylindrical body of the guide 11 is of a diameter substantially equal to the small diameter of the internal area between the cartridge tubes against which the flange is arranged to seat and a where it is secured by means of screws 14.
The cartridge clips or grippers 8 are formed of spring metal and are flat bars having their ends turned at right angles so asto project from one side of the clip substantially as shown in Fig. 5. Adjacent one of the turned ends, the clip 8 is formed to provide a V-shaped projection or cam follower 15 extending from the clip on the side opposite the side from which the turned ends project.
The cartridge receiving tubes 2 are each provided with an aperture 16, positioned at the inner side of the annular series and located at a disvtance from the open end of the tube 2 substantially equal to the length of the shell of the cartridge. 4. The side walls of each tube 2 are then grooved, as at 17 and 18 in Fig. 6, in the portion between the aperture 16 and the inner or closed end of the tube 2. The grooves 17 and 18 are cut in the tube wall so that their deepest parts are at the opening 16 and the inner end the respectively, the grooves tapering or growing more shallow as they approach each other until they fade or disappear entirely half way between the opening 16 and the inner end of the tube 2.
The spring clips or grippers 8, which have a length between their bent ends substantially equivalent to the distance from the center of the aperture 16 in the cartridge tubes 2 to the bottom of the groove 10 in the boss 7 of the head plate 6, are disposed iii the cartridge holder inflan axial positibn; each with the befit ehd or finger 19 adjacent -the projecting portion or cam follower 15, extending through the aperture 16 and providing a catch for engaging the rim of*a cartridge. Thus the fingers orcatches 19 of the grippers 8 are forced into the cartridge receiving chambers 3, as shown in Fig. 2, where they are engaged by the rims 9 of the cartridges 4. In this manner the cartridges will be firmly held in the holder and will not be released until an inward pressure is exerted on m in l 199V? th 9 23 mag/tree theprojections 15 of the grippers 8 and allow the grippers to spring back to thei'rnormal position and release the shells.
When reloading a revolver, the revolver cylindei is first swung from the revolver and the empty shells ejected. The reloader is then placed above therevblver cylinder with the tapered ends o'f'the cartridges projecting into the chambers in the cylinder. This will move the cam 23 into a position wherein the cartridges are still'locked within their respective chambers and the reloader is then used in themanner that has been heretorfore mentioned.

I claim:
1. In a reloading cartridge clip for revolvers, a holder having an annular series of cartridge receiving chambers, a head plate, grippers carried by the head plate one for each of said chambers, said grippers each comprising an arm disposed parallel with the holder and having a finger for engaging the base of a cartridge, a plunger stem mounted axially in said head plate and extending axially of the holder, and a cam on said stem engageable with the gripper arms to simultaneously actuate the same for causing the fingers thereof to be engaged and disengaged from the cartridges.
2. In a reloading cartridge clip for revolvers, a holder having an annular series of cartridge receiving chambers, a head plate, grippers carried by the head plate one for each of said chambers, said grippers being arranged in parallel relation and each comprising a laterally projecting finger and an oppositely extending cam follower, said finger being arranged. for engaging the base of a cartridge inserted into a respective charm ber, a plunger stem reciprocally mounted axially of the head plate, and a cam mounted on said stem and disposed centrally in the holder for engaging the cam followers on said grippers, said cam actuating the gripping fingers upon movement of the plunger stem.
3. In a reloading cartridge clip for revolvers, a holder having an annular series of cartridge receiving chambers, a head plate, a gripper adjacent the inner end of each cartridge chamber, means securing the grippers to the head plate by their end portions and with the grippers in axially arranged relation, said grippers each comprising an arm having a laterally projecting catch extending into a respective cartridge chamber and arranged to engage the base of a cartridge, a cam disposed centrally between the arms of the grippers, and a plunger stem reciprocable in the head plate and having guided movement between the cartridge chambers, said cam being mounted on said plunger stem and arranged to simultaneously actuate the grippers upon movement of the plunger stem.
4. A reloading cartridge clip for revolvers comprising in combination, a cartridge holder embodying a series of annularly arranged tubes providing cartridge receiving chambers, said tubes having an aperture in their inner walls intermediate their ends, a head plate, a series of grippers secured to the head plate one for each of said tubes, said grippers each comprising an axially extending arm having a projecting finger extending into the wall aperture of a respective tube, a cam follewing projection on each of said arms disposed adjacent the finger and on the opposite side thereof, a centrally disposed cam arranged to engage said cam following projections, and a plunger stem movable axially through the head plate and being connected to the cam for movement thereof for simultaneous actuating of all of the grippers.
