IMPROVEMENT IN TOP-PROPS FOR CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,390, dated October 23, 1877; application filed August 18, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD SAWYER, of Merrimac, in the coinlty of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Prop for Carriage-Tops, of which the following is a specification:

covering the leather around the socket b, and the outer end of the thimble is hexagonal, to adapt it to a wrench.
The bolt 0 is flattened on one side from the thimble B outward, and to it washers g are fitted. One of these washers is placed against the outer end of the thimble, and the other just inside of the nut 71, that holds the bracest' j on the bolt. 1
It will be seen that as thewashers g cannot turn on the bolt, the nut h and thimble will not be unscrewed by the action of the braces.
