This invention relates generally to clips for holding electrical' parts such as cartridge fuses and consists 'of certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts that will be-he"'inaiter more fully described and particularlit pointed out in the appended claims. 1 1' v In the accompanying drawing:

Referring now to the drawing, A is the base;
B and C respectively are the arms, and D is a tie member of a fuse clip embodying our invention.
As shown, the base A and arms B and C are integral and are preferably formed from a single strip of copper or other suitable material .of high electrical conductivity. The base A is preferably flat and has an opening 1 at approximately the center thereof for receiving an anchorage member 2. The arms B and C have short portions 3 and 4 respectively inclining inwardly from opposite ends of the base and have relatively long longi tudinally curved portions 5 and 6 respectively that project outwardly from the inner ends of the inwardly inclined portions 3 and 4 and constitute jaws for gripping engagement with the ferrule '7 p of fuse 8. Preferably the portions 5 and 6 of the arms are provided at their free ends with outwardly rolled or return bent portions 9 and 10 respectively that cooperate with the arms to provide parallel tubes Hand 12 respectively. The
tie member D is preferably formed of a material such as steel having relatively good spring qualities and comprises a single length of wire having a substantially V-shaped portion 13 and a .pair of substantially parallel arm portions 14 and 15respectively. As shown, the arms 14 and 15 are received within the tubes 11 and 12 while the V portion 13 spans or bridges the space between the longitudinally curved portions 5 and 6- of the arms at one end of the clip. Preferably 5 the tubes 11 and 12 fit the arms 14 and 15 snugly and thelatter preferably have roughened or serrated surfaces 16 and 17 respectively that bite into the copper walls of said tubes.
Thus the V portion 13 of the tie member conostitutes a stop or abutment to limit endwise movement of the fuse and normally exerts a pressure upon the longitudinally curved portions 5 and 6 of the arms tending to resist separation thereof. However, the constructionis such that it aifords the proper spring action to permitthe portions 5 and 6 respectively of the arms to spring into and out of engagement withthe ferrule 7 when the latter is moved therebetween.
What We claim as our invention is:
1. A clip having laterally spaced portions fo gripping the ferrule of a fuse, said portions having return bent edges, and a reinforcement for the clip including a length of wire havinga substantially V-shaped portion spanning the space between said portions and having arms received in said return bent edges.
2. A clip having laterally spaced portions for gripping the ferrule of a fuse, and a reinforcement for the clip including a length of wire having a substantially V-shaped portion and substantially parallel arms disposed at substantially right angles to the V, the V-shaped portion of the wire spanning the space between the laterally spaced portions of the clip, and the arms and laterally spaced portions being rigidly secured together.
3. A cliphaving laterally spaced portions provided at their free ends with tubular portions, and a reinforcement for the clip including a length of wire having a portion spanning the space between said portions and having arms secured within the tubular portions. 4
4. A clip formed from a strip of metal of relatively high conductivity, having a base, and arms projecting from the base, portions of the arms extending inwardly over the base, other portions of said arms being curved longitudinally and spaced apart so as to provide ferrule gripping members, and a reinforcement for the clip including a length of wire having its end portions secured in the longitudinally curved portions and having an intermediate portion spanning the space between said curved portions and providing an abutment or stop to limit endwise movement of the fuse.
5. A clip having laterally spaced contact portions of predetermined electrical conductivity provided with substantially parallel tubular portions, and a reinforcement for the clip including a member of different electrical conductivity having a portion spanning the space between the laterally spaced portionsand having end portions secured within the tubular portions.
6. A clip having laterally spaced portions of copper for contacting with the ferrule of a fuse, and a connection between said portions including a steel wire spanning the space between said portions and having opposite ends thereof engaging and held against movement relative to the laterally spaced contacting portions aforesaid.
'l.- A clip having laterally spaced portions formed of a material of relatively high electrical conductivity for contacting with the ferrule of the fuse, and stiffening means for the clip formed of a material of relatively low electrical conductivity having portions fixed to the laterally spaced portions and having other portions spanning the space between said laterally spaced portions under tension and urging the fixed portions toward one another.
8. A fuse clip having laterally spaced gripping means provided with return bent portions, and means normally resisting separation of said gripping means but yieldable to permit such separation, including a metal member having opposite ends thereof secured within the return bent portions and having a part spanning the space between the gripping means and constituting a stop to limit endwise movement of a fuse.
9. A clip having laterally spaced gripping portions, and a reinforcement for the clip including a wire terminally secured to said laterally spaced portions and having portions disposed at substantially right angles to each other normally tending to urge the laterally spaced portions toward each other but yieldable to resist separation thereof.
10. A clip formed of strip stock and having laterally spaced gripping portions, and a reinforcement for the clip formed of different material having afm portions upon the outer sides of the laterally spaced portions, and having yieldable portions intermediate said arm portions disposed at substantially right angles to each other, normally urging the arm portions aforesaid against the laterally spaced portions but mov-v able relative to each other upon movement of the laterally spaced portions aforesaid.
11. A clip having a base and provided on the base with opposed contact portions of flexible material having arelatively high electrical conductivity, and reinforcing means for the clip including a member terminally secured to said opposed contact portions and provided at certain upright edges'of said contact portions with transversely extending means tending to urge the contact portions toward each other but yieldable to resist a separation thereof, said reinforcing means being formed of a material having relatively good spring qualities.
12. In combination, a wire having substantially parallel end portions and a substantially V-shaped intermediate portion, and a clip having laterally spaced contact portions at one side of the V-shaped portion of the wire and having portions receiving and secured to the parallel end portions aforesaid.
13. In combination, a length of steel having substantially parallel end portions and having inclined portions disposed at substantially right angles to said end portions and to each other, and a clip having laterally spaced contact portions at one side of the inclined portions and movable relative thereto, and having return bent portions receiving and secured to the parallel end portions aforesaid.
14. A clip having a base and provided on the base with opposed contact portions, and reinforcing means for the clip including a member having portions extending longitudinally of and rigidly secured to said opposed contact portions and provided at certain edges of said contact portions with transversely extending portions tending to urge the contact portions toward each other but yieldable to resist separation thereof.
15. A fuse clip having laterally spaced contact portions, and a. reinforcement for the clip including a length of spring metal terminally secured to said laterally spaced portions and provided intermediate said portions with a substantially V-shaped portion that spans the space between and is substantially parallel to the adjacent edges of said contact portions.
16. A fuse clip having laterally spaced contact portions providedwith longitudinal edges and free ends, and a reinforcement for the clip including a length of spring metal terminally secured to said laterally spaced portions at the free ends thereof and provided intermediate said portions with a substantially V-shaped portion that spans the space between and is substantially parallel to the adjacent longitudinal edges of said contact portions.
17. A fuse clip having a base and provided on the base with laterally spaced contact portions, and a reinforcement for the clip including a member terminally secured to said portions at the free ends thereof and having a substantially V-shaped intermediate portion spanning the space between said portions with the apex of the V extending toward but spaced from the base.
18. A fuse clip having a base and provided on the base with laterally spaced contact portions, and a reinforcement for the clip including a member terminally secured to said portions at the free ends thereof and having portions converging from said free ends toward but spaced from the base.
19. A fuse clip having a base, and laterally spaced contact portions projecting upwardly from the base, and a reinforcement for the clip including a member terminally secured to said portions at the free ends thereof and provided at certain upright edges of said portions with depending portions that converge from the free ends of said contact portions toward the base.
20. A clip formed of relatively soft material having laterally spaced gripping portions, and a reinforcement for the clip formed of difierent material having substantially parallel arm portions secured to the laterally spaced portions, and having a substantially V-shaped portion intermediate said arm portions disposed at one edge of the gripping portions, normally urging the laterally spaced portions toward one another but yieldable upon movement of the laterally spaced portions aforesaid.
21. A clip having a base, opposed contact portions on said base, and reinforcing means for the clip including a member terminally secured to said opposed contact portions and provided at certain longitudinal edges thereof with transversely extending means and tending to urge the contact portions toward each other but yieldable to resist a separation thereof.
22. A clip having laterally spaced portions of copper for gripping the ferrule of a fuse, and a one piece connection between said portions including a steel spring member spanning the space between said portions at one edge thereof and terminally connected to the laterally spaced portions aforesaid, said member normally resisting separation of said portions but yieldable to permit such separation.
23. A clip having laterally spaced portions of current conducting material for gripping a portion of a fuse, said laterally spaced portions havcluding a member formed separately from said laterally spaced portions, said member normally resisting separation of said portions but yieldable to permit such separation, parts of said member being in engagement with said laterally spaced portions at their free ends, and an intermediate part of said member extending lengthwise of said laterally spaced portions and spanning the space between the longitudinal edges of said laterally spaced portions adjacent their fixed'ends.
24. A clip having laterally spaced strip-like portions of current conducting material for holding a portion of a fuse, said laterally spaced portions having relatively fixed and free ends and having longitudinal edges extending between said fixed and free ends, and reinforcing means for the clip including a single length of wire normally resisting separation of said portions but yieldable to permit such separation, parts of said wire reinforcing member at opposite ends thereof engaging said laterally spaced portions at their free ends, a part of said wire member intermediate the parts just mentioned extending lengthwiseof said laterally spaced portions and spanning the space between the longitudinal edges thereof adjacent their fixed ends.
25. A clip having laterally spaced sheet metal portions of current conducting material for holding a portion of a fuse, said laterally spaced portions having relatively fixed and free ends and having longitudinal edges extending between said fixed and free ends, and reinforcing means for the clip including a single length of wire normally resisting separation of said portions but yieldable to permit such separation, said wire member having parts at opposite ends thereof engaging said laterally spaced portions at their free ends and provided intermediate the parts just mentioned with an open return bent portion that extends lengthwise of said laterally spaced portions and has a part spanning the space between the longitudinal edges of said laterally spaced portions adjacent their fixed ends.
26. A clip having a base and provided on the base with opposed contact portions of flexible material, said portions having free ends and having longitudinal edges extending between said free ends and base, and reinforcing means for the clip including a length of wire normally resisting separation of said contact portions but yieldable to permit such separation, parts of said wire at opposite ends thereof engaging the contact portion at their free ends, said wire member being provided intermediate the parts just mentioned with an open return-bent portion that extends lengthwise of the contact portions and has a part spanning the space v between said longitudinal edges adjacent to said base.
27. A clip having laterally spaced portions of current conducting material for gripping a portion of a. fuse, said laterally spaced portions having relatively fixed and free ends and having longitudinal edges extending between said fixed and free ends, and reinforcing means for the clip including a member formed separately from said laterally spaced portions, said member normally resisting separation of said portions but yieldable to permit such separation, said member comprising a single length of material having relatively good spring qualities, parts of said member at opposite ends thereof engaging said laterally spaced portions at their free ends, said member being provided intermediate the parts just mentioned with parts that extend lengthwise of the spaced portions at the longitudinal edges thereof toward the fixed ends thereof at substantially right angles to the parts aforesaid and incline toward each other at one end of the space between said laterally spaced portions.
