BEVERAGE DI SPENSER Filed June 13, 1932 III 11v VENTOR' Charles A. Gsddes I ATTORNEY iatented Apr. 3, 1934 UNITED STATES BEVERAGE DISPENSER Charles A. Geddes, Rochester, N. Y., assignor to Richardson Corporation, Rochester, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application June 1.3, 1932, Serial No. 616,915
7 Claims.
provision of means adjacent the dispenser casing for clamping a gasket between two parts of a faucet or dispensing device, a single device being provided for neatly concealing said clamping means and the anchoring means for the faucet member.
To these and other ends, the invention consists in the construction and arrangement, of parts that will appear from the following descrip- -tion when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the endof the specification.
In the drawing: t Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a beverage dispenser 3; ,of well known type illustrating one possible ap- 5 plication of the invention; 1
1 Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation partly broken away and partly in section of the dispensing apparatus and its mounting in the casing,
. Zand 5 Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same, partly in section and partly broken away.
Referring particularly to the drawing, a beveragedispenser of well known type is shown having a barrel-shaped casing 1 provided with an opening through its wall at 2 in which the dispensing devices are mounted. The dispensing devices may comprise a faucet member 3 of usual or well known form having a discharge nozzle 4 and a a movable valve member therein which is manual-- 13; operated by means of a finger-piece 5which projects through a slot 6 in the faucet member. A suitable support arranged in the opening 2 is provided for mounting the faucet member on the casing.
Said support comprises a cylindrical member 7 adapted to fit in the opening 2 and having anchoring means arranged to cooperate with the wall to hold the support against turning movements in the casing. To this end, a pair of pins or studs 8 are fixed in the support '7 as by a driving fit and project outwardly therefrom in dia metrically opposite directions and engage grooves in the outer wall of the casing which communicate with and project in opposite directions from co the opening 2. Said grooves are preferably of a depth equal to the thickness of the pins 8 so that the latter may be seated therein flush with the outer surface of the casing. The support 7 projects inwardly from the inner surface of the easing wall and is threaded on its inner end for cooperation with a nut Qthreaded thereon. Although the casing wall at the point where the dispensing devices are mounted thereon is inclined outwardly and upwardly, it is desirable to mount the dispensing devices thereon in a horizontal position, and to this end, the axis of the opening 2 is arranged in a horizontal plane, and the axis of the cylindrical support mounted therein is also arranged insaid horizontal plane, and the inner surface of the wall of the casing is inclined relatively thereto. The inner surface of the casing wall, as a result, is inclined upwardly and outwardly relatively to the face of the nut, and in order to provide a firm and strong engagement between the face of the nut and the inner surface of the casing, a tapered washer or gasket 11 is inserted between them. When the nut is turned to move it on the support toward the casing wall, it engages the-washer l1 with substantially equal pressure on all sides, and during such turning the support is held against rotation by the interengagement of the pins 8 with the casing wall, and by turning the nut by means of a suitable tool, the washer or gasket' is clamped firmly between the face of the nut and the inner surface of the casing wall. By this arrangement, the opening 2 is completely sealed and the support 7 is firmly anchored or secured in the casing wall against lateral play or wobbling.
The support 7 may have one or more openings therethrough, two being shown in the present instance, one of which may be connected with a syrup conductor 12 and the other with a conductor 13 for a suitable diluent, such as carbonated water.
At its outer end, the support is provided with an outwardly projecting flange or collar 14 which is arranged to engage the outer end of a sleeve 15-loosely mounted on the outer end of the support so as to be revoluble and axially movable thereon. In assembling the sleeve 15 on the support, it is passed over the inner end of the support before it is mounted in the casing and before the pins 8 are secured therein by being driven into openings provided therefor, so that the collar is limited in its movements axially on the support by the pins 8 and the flange 14 on its outer end.
The faucet member 3 is detachably mounted on the outer end of the support '7. To this end, it is counterbored at its inner end to provide an opening to fit over the flange 14 and is internally threaded to cooperate with the externally 3 threaded outer end of the sleeve 15, which at its inner end may be provided with an angular flange 16 for cooperation with a suitable tool whereby it may be turned to draw the faucet member 3 toward the support and into clamping engagement with a suitable gasket 17 arranged between them. The faucet member 3 is provided with one or more conductors 18 and 19 corresponding to the conductors 12 and 13 and pro jecting into the opening in its rear end and fitted into the front ends of the corresponding openings in the support. It will be noted that the sleeve 15 serves to clamp the gasket 1'7 between the adjacent surfaces of the support and the faucet member, and by disengaging it from the faucet member, the latter may be detached, as for repairs or replacement.
It is desirable to have the dispenser as ornamental and neat in appearance as practically possible. To this end, a rosette or boss 20 is fitted on the faucet member and engages the outer wall of the casing in a manner to inclose the pins 8 and the inner end of the sleeve 15. When properly positioned,-the rosette 20 may be secured to the faucet member in any suitable manner, as by means of a set screw as shown.
Although only one embodiment of the invention is shown and described herein, it will be understood that this application is intended to cover such changes or modifications as come within the spirit of the invention or scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing having an opening therein, of a dispensing device mounted in said opening, said device comprising a support arranged in said opening, anchoring means projecting in opposite directionsfrom said support and adapted to cooperate with the casing to anchor the support against turning movement therein and acting to limit inward movement of the support, means on the inner end of said support for clamping said anchoring means into engagement with the casing, and means loosely and rotatably mounted on the outer end of said support for connection with a faucet member. a
2. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing having an inclined wall and a horizontally arranged opening through said wall, of a dispensing device mounted in said opening and comprising a support arranged in said opening, oppositely projecting anchoring devices on said support for cooperating with the casing wallto secure the support against turning movements therein and acting to limit inward movement of the support, a gasket on the inner end of the support having its inner face arranged in a vertical plane and its outer face inclined relatively thereto to lie flush against the inner surface of the casing wall, a clamping member threaded on the inner end of the support for clamping said washer and anchoring devices into engagement with the opposite surfaces of the casing wall, and means loosely and rotatably mounted on the outer end of said support for connection with a faucet member.
3. In a beverage dispenser, the combination with a casing having an opening therethrough, of dispensing devices mounted on said casing and comprising a support projecting through said opening and secured therein, interengaging means on'said support and the outer surface of said casing for securing the support against turning movements therein and acting to limit inward movement of the support, a faucet member, and means revolubly and loosely mounted on saidsupport for securing the faucet member to its outer end.
