This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in land grading machines, and more particularly to a novel device of simple construction which can be manufactured and sold at low cost.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple grading device which can be drawn by a tractor or horses and which can be readily adjusted and controlled by a single man.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the machine.
Figure 2 represents a side elevational view of the machine.
Figure 3 represents a sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 represents a front elevational view of the blade and mold board.
Figure 5 represents a fragmentary bottom plan view of the platform.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the frame of the machine, while at opposite sides of its forward end are located the bearings 6--6 through which the axle 7 is journalled. Rotatably mounted on the end portions of the axle 7 projecting beyond the sides of the frame 5 are the broad rim wheels 8. To the bottom of the frame 5, at the rear thereof, are the broadly constructed runners 9-9 for supporting the frame 5 as Well as the platform 10 built thereon.
A pair of L-shaped guide bars 1111 is secured by their horizontal portions to the side portions of the frame 5 so as to have their vertical portions extending upwardly in the manner substantially shown in Figure 2.
Extending rearwardly from the axle 7 is the V-shaped frame 12 having the handle bar 13 extending from the apex thereof. Extending forwardly from the axle '7 are the arms 14-14.
Numeral 15 represents the mold board having the grading blade 16 secured to the lower edge thereof, there being side wings or flanges 1'7 at the end of the board 15, as in the manner substantially shown in Figures 1 and 2.
The front side of the mold board 15 is reinforced by vertical straps 21, while the rear side has straps 22-22, each of which is provided with an outstanding lug 23 having an opening therein through which the tensioning rod 24 extends, the ends being anchored in the sockets 25 formed in the end reinforcing straps 26.
Adjacent each end of the mold board 15 is a pair of vertically spaced blocks 27-27 suitably secured to the back side of the mold board and each having an opening therein to receive the upstanding portion of one of the L-shaped guide bars 11.
The forward ends of the arms 14 on the axle 7 are connected to the back side of the mold board 15 by links 28.
It can now be seen that the operator can stand upon the platform 10 and by lifting or lowering the handle 13, can raise or lower the mold board 15 and consequently the plate 16, as the same will rise and lower on the guide members 11.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A grader of the character described comprising a platform, a rotary transverse axle at one end of the platform, ground engaging wheels rotatably mounted on the axle at the ends thereof, a lever extending rearwardly over the platform from the axle, vertical guide means on the platform, a mold board having a ground engaging grading blade slidably mounted on the said guides, an arm projecting forwardly from the axle, and a link connection between the arm and the said mold board.
