HOLDER Filed May a, 1935 INVENTOR ATTORN EYS permitting the contents thereof to be discharged 5 ing guideways for delivering the contents of the 9 of the package to flow out through apertures 5 well as affords a more sightiy and pleasing apin color and appearance with the fixtures and iowing specification and accompanying drawing,
Patented Feb. 13, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICET HOLDER William F. C. Brooker, Paramus, N. J assignor to Enoch Morgans Sons 00., New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Appiication May 3, 1933. Serial No. 669,093
the powder is arranged, The package 15 is introduced into the casinglO through the open bottom end thereof and the size and shape of the interior of the casing bears such relation to the size and shape of the package 15 that there is a friction 60 fit between the casing and the package. The package is thus securely retained within the casing and the two constitute a single unit. Preferably, the casing 10 is of such height that the package 15 is not quite completely received with- 5 in the casing but a short portion thereof is exposed. Thus, when the imit comprising the package and easing are moved along a surface, the casing is out of contact with the surface and cannot damage such surface. 7
The top of the package 15 contacts with the inner face of the top 11 and the recesses 12 form with the top of the package discharge channels through which the contents of the package may be directed to any desired spot. The top of the 7 package 15 is punched in as at 16 to provide discharge openings communicating with the delivery channelsabove referred to. Preferably, the package 15 is provided in its top with Weakened spotswhichare suitably indicated as the spots to be punched to form the'discharge open- 3 Claims.
"This'invention relates to holders and has for *an object to provide for commercial packages of cleaning powder or the like a rigid holder which retains andcpnceals such package while in the usual manner. .{Such a holder may be in the form of a metal casing open at one end to permit the insertionof the package, the casing being of proper shape and size to have a friction fit with the package, thereby holding the same securely. The top of the casing is provided with one or more recesses leading tothe edge of the casing and cooperating with the top of a package contained in the casing to form channels providpackage to any desired point. Thencontents of the package may be discharged in the customary manner merely by lifting and tiltingthe c asing .and the contained package to cause the contents provided in the package top for that purpose. The casing protects the package against distor- 2tion'b y handling and obviates the unslightly appearance of a damaged or crushed package as pearance than afforded by the usual commercial package.
Furthermore, the casing may be colored or otherwise ornamented so that it will harmonize ings 16. The sides of the casing are continuous and remain in fixed relationship to each other. The package is relatively yieldable so that although its outside dimensions are substantially the same as the inside dimensions of the casing 10, the package can be introduced into the casing. The yielding of the package results in the friction fit by which the package is securely retained in the go casing. After the contents of a package have been fully discharged, the container 15 is withdrawn from the casing 10 and a full package substituted in its place.
The container may be fabricated by a die-.96 molding operation or it may be fabricated from sheet metal bent into the proper shape and size.
decorations of the kitchen, bath-room or other room in which the package is kept.
Other objects, novel features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the folbottom end and having the top 11 closing the upper end. The casing is rectangular in crosssection as clearly shown in Fig. 3 and the side Walls of the casing have smooth plane surfaces. The top 11 is cut away to form recesses 12 leading to opposite edges of the top. A rib 13 may be provided on the top and having the same general configuration as the cross-section of the casing.
In use, the casing 10 fits over and encloses a commercial package of cleansing powder or the like, such package comprising a container 15 of cardboard or other similar material within which The casing may be painted or otherwise ornamented to give it a pleasing and attractive appearance. Such a casing protects the package while permitting its contents to be as accessible as without the casing. The casing and package being in effect a unit makes possible the discharge of the contents in the same manner as if the package were not assembled with the casing. All the advantages of the package are retained and the advantages of protection and improved appearance are added.
It is of course understood that various modifications may be made in the structure of the de-.
vice above described, without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A holder for a package of cleaning powder or the like comprising a rigid casing of substantially the same interior cross-sectional dimensions as theexterior cross-sectional dimensions as the package, said package being yieldable whereby a friction fit exists between said casing and package, and recesses in the top of the casing leading to the edges thereof and being adapted to cooperate with the top of a package in-=the casing to form delivery channels.
2. A holder for a package of cleaning'powder or the like, said package being rectangular in cross-section and being yieldable and said holder comprising a casing rectangular 'incross-section and of substantially the same interiorcross-sectional dimensions as the exterior cross-sectional dimensionsof said package, the sides of said casing having continuous plane surfaces, the
and of substantially the same interior cross-sectional dimensions as the exterior cross-sectional dimensions of said package, the sides of said casing having continuous plane surfaces, the
yieldability of said package effecting a friction fit between said casing and package, and recesses in thetop of said casing leading to the sides thereof-and adapted to cooperate with the top of a package in the casing to form delivery channels, said casing being of less height than said --packageto expose a portion thereof.
