6 Claims.
My invention relates to a support for signs and the like, and more particularly to a frame support which can be used with transparent signs, shadow boxes, pictures, or designs to be viewed from two sides, and which is adaptable to a double-faced sign to be viewed from two sides, and to hold signs or other displays made of iiimsy material as well as heavy stiff material.
An object of my invention is to provide a frame having a means for securely fastening its corners and for holding the frame in spaced relation from a support and having a further means surmounted on the fastening means for adhesively fastening the frame to a support.
Another object of my invention is to provide a sign-supporting frame the construction of which is adaptable to many sizes, weights, and shapes without departing in any material measure from that shown or described herein, and one which when assembled forms a frame, not only relatively light in weight and remarkably compact, but one which is as well substantially durable, strong and somewhat more exible than the conventional form of wooden frame.
Another object of my invention is to provide a construction adaptable to being produced offlaminated material, thereby obtaining the usual and some special advantages of that type of construction over that wherein each of the parts is made from a single piece of material.
A further object of my invention is to provide a laminatedconstruction in a frame which permits the use of overhanging laminations to form a groove, thereby avoiding the use of mortising machinery, and, at the same time, effecting a stronger construction through having the overhanging edges form the groove. These features are especially prominent when `the overhanging plies are of relatively thin, tough material such as metal, presenting a structure of minimum thickness and maximum strength.
A still further object of my invention is to provide composite laminations in the construction shown and described, in which the middle or axial plies are of a relatively light-weight material and relatively thick compared with the outer plies, which outer plies would be made of relatively high-tensile strength material such as metal. Such construction would have a relatively high bending stress depending substantially upon the distance away from the center the metal would be positioned.
An object of my invention is in providing a construction only slightly different in appearance from either side, making it adaptable to signs having front and back displays.
My invention has for an object the provision of a slidably replaceable mounting having a means thereon for holding flat a Sign. or display of flimsy material.
In my invention another object is in providing Y a method wherein a frame or similar device, having pieces of nitrocellulose fastened thereon, can be fastened to glass or other support with a strong transparent adhesive. A valuable feature of this method is that when the frame or device is pried from its support no unsightly blemish or mark of any kind remains to be removed from the support.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a strong corner construction. est part of a frame or similar structure is well known to be its corners. In order then to overcome this handicap I have provided a scarfed joint at the corners by overlapping them and fastening thereto a piece of material serving notl only to strengthen and support the construction at the corners but also for ornamental purposes.
Another object in my invention is in providing a means for fastening the frame to a support,
a means which can be distributed to any partfV of the frame depending upon the weight and the position of the weight which it must carry, yet without detracting from its appearance. If effectively distributed these means add considerably in ornamental value to a frame.
A further object of my invention is in providing a means for fastening the device to a support in any position or angle ldependingupon the position and angle of the support.
Another object of my invention is in providing a construction materially free from warpage. y
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter be more fully pointed out, and for a more complete understanding of the characteristic features of this invention reference may now be had to the following description when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which latte'rt Figure 1 isav perspective view of my invention in place on a display window.

In referring more particularly to the drawing, Figure 1 depicts how the frame 10 can be applied to a show case or window 12, which arrangement is adapted to display one or two sides of a sign 13 held in position by recess-forming strips 14.
Fig. 2 shows the details of construction of the frame 10 and inserted mounting 15. The sides of the frame are composed of an inner lamination 16 of relatively thick but light-weight material such as wood, and adhesively fastened to each of the back and front faces is a relatively thin and high tensile-strength laminated material 17 extending up to the corner plates 18 and up to the reduced portion 19 of cross-piece 20.
