IMPROVEMENT IN BAYONETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 194,051, dated August 14, 1877 ;-a.pp1ieation filled March 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND RICE, brev'et lientenant-colonel, United states Army, have invented an Improved Bayonet, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of an improved bayonet, having a blade shaped like that of a bowie-knife, only much wider.

I do not claim as new a bayonet made with a wide tapering blade analogous to a gardeners or masons trowel; nor do I claim as new a bayonet provided with saw-teeth. both of these inventions having been patented; but
What I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A bayonet 0f sufiieient width to serve as an intrenehing-tool, one edge of which is pro-1 vided with a cutting-edge and the other with saw-teeth, substantially as, in the manner, and for the purpose set forth.
