.This invention relates to improvements in metal liquid containers of that type in which lubricating oil or other liquid is held in storage to be dispensed as required, and the walls of which are disposed in flat planes. Such containers, especially'when the Walls thereof are of thin metal, when filled with liquid tend to expand be-v cause of the pressure of the head of liquid within the container against the fiat walls thereof which results in false indications of the quantity of liquid in the container when a gauge stick is employed in the ordinary manner of determining the content of the container by ascertaining the level of liquid therein. Outward bulging of the flat walls of such containers, due to the head of the liquid content thereof, causes lowering of the liquid level in the containers with the consequent inaccuracies in measuring the contents of the containers and interference with grouping of a series of tanks together in compact formation.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple expedient for sustaining the fiat walls of a metallic liquid container substantially in their normal planes to prevent bulging thereof because of pressure within the container occasionedby the head of liquid therein, or, becoming force externally applied by accident or otherwise which would alter the normal quantity holding capacity of the container.

The illustrative embodiment of the invention consists of a liquid container 1 formed of sheet, metal and characterized by its walls 2 that extend in flat planes and which are sustained in' their by means to oppose external top 6 with a fill opening 10 for replenishing the; container with liquid 'to be subsequently dispensed. In. use, when the container is filled with liquid the more or less extensive walls thereof to which the ribs have been'applied are maintainedsubi stantially in their normal planes and are preventedfrom outward as well as'inward displacement so that the normal holding capacity of the container is'therebymaintained, and the walls of the container are braced by the ribs and held so asto permit the grouping of a series of containers together without interference with each other due to bulging of adjacent Walls thereof.
I claim:
In combination with v a a sheet metal container for liquid having walls that extend substantially in flat planes, a series of ribs each being formed of sheet metal and shaped so as to 'have' dive rgently disposed sides, the inner edge of one of which sides is contiguous with the corresponding inner edge of its complemental side, and the edge of each side having an outwardly extending flange, said sides being comparatively wider at their lower ends than at their upper ends, said flanges being secured to the inner face of the container-wall, the spacelbetweenthe sides of said rib and the adjacent portion of the container wall constituting "a passageway that is open to the'interior of the container at eachend of the rib.
