Description

w. BATEMAN 1,937,399
SHOE LACE Nov. 28, 1933.
Filed May 11 1933 Inventor %//er Fafewau Patented Nov. 28, 1933b UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a lacingfor shoes or the like, the general object of the invention being to make the lace of a single strip of material cut longitudinally from one end to a point 5 adjacent the other end so as to provide a pair of laces connected together at one end.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. 7
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of the lace.
As shown in this view, the lace A is composed of a single strip of material which is slitted longitudinally beginning at a point adjacent one end, as shown at 1, through theother end, so
that two laces 2 and 3 are provided which are connected together at one end. The other ends may be provided with the tips 4 so that they can be readily passed throughfeyelets.
The great advantages of the new lacing are that one can out a lengthof seventy-two inches and. longer lace out of a small hide or a thirty- Vsix inch hide, which will be auniform lace all the way through.
Another is that the lacing fits under the flap of the shoe and will never be noticed and not be pulled out of the inner side of the shoe. Also by doing this, one will have equal lengths of string on both sides of the shoe.
By using this lace,'the cost of production can be out about one-half of what it would cost to make the straight lace.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: J5 A lace of the class described comprising a strip slitted longitudinally from a point adjacent one end through the other end to provide a pair of lacings connected together at one end.
WALTER BATEMAN.
