The sheath forming the subject matter ci the present invention comprises a backing member 10 which is preferably constructed from a single length or piece of leather, and which may vary in size and configuration without depart- The backing hiernber 10 is slotted as at 11 adjacent its upper end to accommodate itself to a belt or the like 12 upon which it is supported. Arranged on one side of the backing member 10 is a pocket, which is also preferably constructed from a single piece of leather, and which pocket has its marginal edges 13 stitched-or otherwise suitably secured to the backing member as at 14. These marginal edges are also riveted to the backing member at their upper ends as at 15. n The pocket in its entirety may of coursevary in size and cross sectional contourV without departing from the, invention, but is essentially of a'contour similar tothe shape 'oi the tool adapted to be received thereby, so that the walls of the pocket vh 1-5 tionally f engage and effectively hold the" tooll Within the pocket, andagainstcasual'separation therefrom. As'hereinabove stated,ithe sheath is primarily intended for use in connection with an ice-piel: including a shank 16 and a handle 17, so thatthe pocket is formed with a relatively large upper portion 18 to receive and engage the handle 17, and a relatively narrow restricted portion 19 which effectively engages the shankkl of the tool as shownl in Figure 5. This narrow portion 19 of the pocket of course merges into-the upper enlargcdportion 18, the pocket is formed from a single piece of material, the lower edge oi which terminates flush with Athe lower edge of the backing member 10. The pocket is open at both ends, to permit water to drain from the lower end of the pocket, and, to also permit the circulation ci air therethrough in a manner vto be'presently described. The entire structure is substantially reinforced at its lower end by a U-shaped reinforcing mem- Y j bcnwhich may be constructed from any suit- Figure 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of able material, preferably metal. What I claim as new is:

1. A sheath for ice picks comprising a stiff substantially at leather-backmember, a pocket member embodying a longitudinally folded piece of exible leather `having its marginal edges secured against thexfront face of the backmember tain the latterin the sheath, and an; elongated U-shaped metal reinforcing member secured on the lower end of the sheath with its intermediate portion slightly spaced below the lower end of the pocket member to form a drainage passage and having its front portion shaped at its lon- Vgtudinal center to conform to the lower end of the pocket.

2. A sheath for ice picks comprising a stii substantially ilat leather back member, a pocket member embodying alongitudinallyvfolded piece of flexible leather having its marginal edges secured against the front face of the back mem- .ber to form a tapered pocket open at both ends and adapted to snugly receive and frictionally engage the blade and handle of the ice pick to retain .the latter in the sheath, and an elongated U-shaped metal reinforcing member secured-on the lower end of the sheath with its intermediate portion slightly spaced below the lower end of the pocket member to form a drainage ,passage .and Vhaving its front portion shaped at its longitudinal center to conform to theflowler end o the pocket, therear portion 'offsaid reinforcing member being-arranged-against :the front face of'the back member and provided witlran'extension which extends along therear of the pocket to a point above the top 'ofthe pocket member.
