This invention relates to building shores andhas for its prime object the provision of a compact, durable, eiiicient building or construction shore, which isreadily adjustable in length, which may with ease and facility be set to the work,
and which in adjustedposition is, rigidly looked under load. 1
And with 'the'above and other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

Referring nowmore in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of myinvention, A designates a jack comprising a foot-platel having suitable swivel-socket connection, as at 2, with the head 3 of a jack-screw 4 threaded for adjustment, as shown, through the jack-beam 5 of a frame B, the head 3 having sockets 6 for reception of a suitable jack adjusting-lever (not shown). 1
To complete the frame 13, the beam 5 is formed on its upper face and at itsopposite ends with suitable sockets or seats 8 for respective thrustimparting butt engaging reception of a pair of of a buildcorrespondingly spaced approximately parallel relatively shiftable side thrust bars 9, 9', preferably of wood or other suitable material, the bars 9, .9, however, being loosely swingingly re tained in the sockets 8 by means of fasteners or lag-screws 10 engaging lugs 11 upstanding from the respective ends'of the beam 5, as best C designates an extension thrust-bar, which is endwise disposed through-thecollar 12 for tele scoping or 'shiftable interfitting co-operation with the side-bars 9, 9', for projecting its upper 1 end adjustably more or lessfrom the side-bars 9, 9; and having at its lower end a suitablerecess 14 for receiving the upper endof the jack-screw l at fully telescoped or, minimum extension position.
D designates a clamp comprising a U-shaped, body member or yoke 15 embracing the frame B and center-bar C with its bight normally slidably engaging the outer face of the .bar 9' and with its legs extending transversely across the bar 0 and each having a pairof slots 16 engaged by, corresponding pins 17 projecting from the respective sides of the bar C for shiftable movement of theyoke 15 slidably on the bars 9, 9', by and with the bar C on telescoping movement thereof into and out of the frame B.
As shown, the respective legs ofthe yoke 15 extend outwardly beyond the outer face of the bar 9 and terminate in ears 18 having registering transverse slots 19 whose end-walls provide opposed arcuate pintle-seats 20, the outer walls of the slots 19 being tangent to the pintle-seats 20, and the inner walls of the slots 19 having parallel-sided recesses 21 extending inwardly beyond the outer face of the side-bar 9. r
E designates a toggle-grip- -lock for quickly adjustably gripping the clamp D on the frameB, the toggle E including a rack-carrying grip-plate 22 for frictionally engaging the outer-face of the on its opposite sides notched, as at 24,'for loosely engaging the walls of the respective recesses 21 for retaining the plate in the yoke 15, the plate 22 being provided on its outer face with a series of transverse teeth 25 and with an upwardly extending tongue 26 likewise provided with a series of transverse teeth 27.
A pawl 28 for latching engagement with the teeth 2'? is pivotally connected, as at 29, with the outer end of a cam-lever 30, which latter in.- cludes opposed pintles or stub-shafts ,31 working in the respective slots 19 and a depending or inher eccentric toothed sector or cam .32 for engaging theplate-teeth 25 preferably when the pintles 31 are disposed in the upper portions of the slots 19 and also preferably, though not necessarily, in the upper slot-pintle-seats 20 with the pawl 28inlever-latching co-operation with the teeth 27 for conjointly with the lever, 30 gripping, as may be said, the plate 22 frictionally on the bar 9 and the bight of the yoke 15 on the bar 9.
Preferably mounted on the upper end of the bar C, is a cap-plate 33 provided with upper and lower side-straps 34 suitably, as at 35, apertured for fastening elements 36, whereby the plate 33 may be detachably mounted on the bar C for removal therefrom if desired.
In use and as shown in Figure 3, the bar C is suitably butted under the member to be sup ported, as, for example, the lintel 3'7 of the work, and preferably the cap-plate 33 is secured to the lintel 37 by other fasteners 36, the lintel 37, in turn, supporting the joists 38 of the form-work 39. A suitable sill-block 40 is disposed under the jack-plate 1, as shown.
In applying my new shore to the work, the jack A is retracted sufficiently for the purpose, and, the toggle-grip E being in open or collapsed position for releasing the clamp D from the frame B, the bar C is extended suitably from the frame B for preliminarily adjusting the shore to the work.
The lever-pintles 31 being seated in the upper seats 20 and the pawl 28 being engaged with the tongue 26, apry-bar or other suitable tool, not shown, engaged with a tooth 27 andbearing upon the swingable end of the lever 30, is pressed downwardly, whereby the lever-pintles 31 are rotated in engagement with the outer wall of the slots 19 for engaging the cam-sector 32 withthe plate-teeth 25 while pressing or gripping the plate 22 frictionally on the bar 9 and the yoke 15 on the bar 9', the pawl 28 meanwhile gravitationally following the movement of. the swingable end of the lever 30 for, in engagement, with successive teeth 27, retaining the lever 30 in pryshifted yoke-gripping position.
The'pawl 28 and lever 30 then comprise, as will be seen, a rigid A-frame in which the lever 30, fulcruming about its pintles 31, acts in toggle-like manner as the lever 30 approaches right-angular position with respect to the plate 22 for with increasing force pressing the sidebars 9, 9, on the bar C.
Thus, the grip-toggle E grips or sets the clamp D on the frame Bfor drawing the bars 9, 9, clampinglyupon the bar C for, in turn, locking the frame B and bar. C together, whereupon, a
suitable lever (not shown) being applied to the screw-head 3, the Jack-screw 4 may, if necessary, be manipulated for bringing the shore tightly in to bearing engagement with the work.
'It will be seen that my new building-shore may i readily be adjusted in length suitably to the work and then with ease and facility applied or set to the work, the shore being readily locked for taking the load applied through the jack-screw forming a part thereof, although the frame 13 and bar C may be also employed successfully, for the purposes intended, with or without a separate or independent jack of suitable construction.
It will be understood that changes and modifications in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of my building-shore may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimand desire to secure by Letters-Patent is,
1. In an adjustable shore, in combination, a frame including relatively shiftable side-bars, an extension-bar lengthwise shiftable therebetween,
a yoke embracing the frame transversely, a friction-plate fiatwise disposed on one of the sidebars intermediate the legs of the yoke, and means including a cam-lever and a connected pawl cooperable with the plate and yoke for clamping the frame and extension nar together.
2. In an adjustable shore, in combination, a frame including relatively shiftable side-bars, an extension-bar lengthwise shiftable therebetween, a yoke embracing the frame transversely, a friction-plate flatwise disposed on one of the sidebars intermediate the legs of the yoke, a camlever having pivot-connection with the yoke, and a pawl having pivot-connection with the lever, the lever and pawl being co-operably engageable with the plate forclamping the frame and extension-bar together.
3. In an adjustable shore, in combination, a frame including relatively shiftable side-bars, an extension-bar lengthwise shiftable therebetween, a yoke embracing the frame transverselyand at its bightengaging the outer face of one of the side-bars, the legs of the yoke extending outwardly beyond the plane of the outer face of the other side-bar, a friction-plate loosely connected with, and interposed flatwise on the outer face of said other side-bar intermediate the legs of the yoke, a cam-lever disposed intermediate the yokelegs and over the plate, pintles on the lever having pivot-connection with the yoke-legs, and a pawl having pivot-connection with the lever, the lever and pawl being co-operably engageable with the plate for clamping the frame and extensionbar together.
4. In an adjustable shore, in combination, a frame including relatively shiftable side-bars, an extension-bar lengthwise shiftable therebetween, a yoke embracing the frame transversely and at its bight engaging the outer face of one of the side-bars, the legs of the yoke extending outwardly beyond the plane of the outer face of the other side-bar and being transversely slotted adjacent their respective outer ends, a friction-plate loosely connected with, and interposed flatwise on the outer face of said other side-bar intermediate the legs of the yoke, a cam-lever disposed intermediate the yoke-legs and over the plate, pintles on the lever loosely disposed for movement in said slots, and a pawl having pivot-connection with the lever, the lever and pawl being co-operably engageable with the plate for clamping the frame and extension-bar together.
5. In an adjustable shore, in combination, a frame including relatively shiftable side-bars, an
extension-bar lengthwise shiftable therebetween,
a yoke embracing the frame transversely and at its bight engaging the outer face of one of the side-bars, the legs of the yoke extending outwardly beyond the plane of the outer face of the other side-bar and being transversely slotted adjacent their respective outer ends, a friction rack-plate having connection with, and interposed fiatwise on the outer face of said other side-bar intermediate the legs of the yoke, a cam-lever disposed intermediate the yoke-legs and having toothed engagement with the plate, pintles on the lever loosely disposed for movement in said slots, and a pawl having pivot-connection at an end with the lever and co-operably engageable at its other end with the plate for rotatably shifting the lever for clamping the frame and extension-bar together.
