2 Claims.
My present invention relates to a wire clamp intended primarily for use in electrical work for 5 be put to many uses where it is desired to clamp wires, rods or cables together, or a lead wire to a. main feed wire.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind that shall be small, durable and eflicient.
Another object being to provide a clamp having no loose parts and which may easily be attached to the wires, quickly and without the use of special tools.
A further object being to provide a device of this kind which shall present a compact and smooth surface for taping with insulation material. f
One of the main objects of the invention is to provide in a wire clamp a positive gripping means very close to the wires, the jaws having a parallel movement which will tend to produce an even pressure on the wires holding them in a positive manner without undue side strain on the bolt.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views, but it is understood that slight changes may be made4 without departingy from the spirit of the invention. j
In the drawing:-
Figure l shows a side view of the clamp as applied to two wires.
Figure 2 shows an end view of the same.
Figure 3 shows the opposite end.
Figure 4 shows a top plan view of the same.
Figure 5 is a top plan view showing the several parts that comprise the clamp.
Referring to the drawing:-
The device comprises two members held together by a cap screw or bolt; the stationary member l0 is formed with a projecting base 11 having a rectangular slot or guide way 12 extending through the base and the head which is hollowed out above said guideway to accommodate a bolt or cap screw as will be later described; said head being formed with a gripping V-shaped notch 13, and a bore communicating with the guide-way.
The movable member 14 also is formed with a base or tongue 15 adapted to slide within the guide-way 12 of the stationary member 10, and said tongue 15 is formed with a bore having the screw threads 16 which'extend through its tongue. Its head is also formed with a gripping V-shaped notch 17 in registry with the notch 13, when 60 the parts are assembled.
It will thus be seen that the two members 10 and 14 have a sliding engagement with each other and the rectangular tongue and guide-way prevent any twist and hold the jaws or gripping notches v13 and 17 in parallel relation with each other and form a very strong clamp. The V-shaped notch being important and the only shape that will securely hold together side by side two wires of different diameters and prevent their movement and twisting loose, this 'not being possible with a round groove. Also the extended base 11 affords a support for the movable member 15 thus forming a strong back and preventing the spread of the jaws when clamped upon the vi5 wires. j
For holding and adjusting the members together, there is provided a bolt or threaded cap screw 20, which is inserted in the hollowed out portion in the head of lthe stationary member 10 8,0 and threaded into the threads 16 of the tongue 15 and the alined bore in the head 14, in such a manner that should the jaws be extended` to the full, the screw 20 will engage the half threadsv 16 while bearing against the wall of the clearance hole thus holding the members together.
It is to be understood that the tongue 15 may be of any desired shape in crosssection and is here shown as rectangular; that any desired material may be used and that the size of the i jaws for holding the wires maybe varied to suit conditions. l
The screw 20 -may`be provided with a lock washer 21, and the two wires are designated by the numeral 22.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patents, isz- 1. A wire clamp comprising in combinatio with a stationary member and a movable member, each formed with a V-shaped gripping jaw in parallel relation with each other, an elongated base integral with and projecting beyond said stationary member at right angles to its jaw and formed with a guideway substantially channel shaped in cross section and extending the full length of said base, a hollowed out portion formed in said member beyond and communicating with said guide-way, a grooved tongue integral with Said movable member and at right angles to its jaw and adapted to slide Within the guide-way and hallowed out portion of the stationary member, said movable member having a threaded bore in axial relation with the bore of the stationary member, the threads of said bore extending along said grooved tongue in the form of half threads, and a bolt mounted Within the hollowed out portion of the stationary member and engaging the threads of both the bore and grooved tongue of the movable member.
2. A Wire clamp comprising in combination with a stationary member and a movable member, each formed with a gripping jaw, an elongated base integral with and projecting beyond said station STEPHEN P. BECKER.
