1 Claim.
This invention relates to a truck for transporting articles, and more especially to a truck for transporting a beam of cloth or any other web material from one place to another in a manu- 5 facturing establishment and especially in a textile mill where the beams of warp or cloth are desired to be transported from one place to another.
An object of this invention is to provide a wheeled truck which can be employed for transporting purposes and when not in use is adapted to rest on three of the four wheels, and while being used for transportation purposes, two or three wheels can be used as desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a truck for transporting filled warp beams in textile mills so as to not disturb the layers of thread on the beam.
Some of the objects of the invention having 20 been stated other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the beam truck;
Figure 2 is an end view of Figure 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numerals l0 and 11 indicate the cross framework of the device and the member 11 has secured at each end thereof the downwardly projecting members 12 and 13 in which suitable spindles 14 and 15 are secured and on which spindles, wheels 16 and 17 are rotatably mounted. The member 10 has at each end thereof the downwardly projecting members 18 and 19 in which spindles 20 are mounted and on each of which is rotatably 5 mounted a wheel 21 at each end thereof.
Projecting upwardly from the end portions of member 10 are the uprights 22 and 23 which have on their upper ends the resilient arcuate members 2 and 25 which have the curled portions .1 26 and 2'? to which is secured a web member 28 for supporting the web or roll of cloth or other material 29. Secured to members 24 and 25 and also to member 11 are the flattened V-shaped members 30 and 31 for bracing the members 24 and 25, and also spanning the distance between members 22 and 23, and secured thereto is a rod 33. Web members 28 are secured to the curled portions 26 and 27 by means of rivets or any other suitable means indicated by reference 30 character 34.
It is seen that a rigid structure is provided in which the flexible strips of material 28 are adapted to support the warp beam or other web supply and in the drawing the position of the Web 35 beam and the web members 28 for supporting the beam are shown in idle position, it being evident that the weight of the web roll 29 will pull portions 26 and 27 toward each other and allow the flexible web strips 28 to sink downwardly and thus suitably support the beam of warp or other source of web supply 29.
It is seen that by this arrangement a beam of Warp threads can be carried from one place to another without rubbing or disturbing the warp threads on the beam due to the peculiar means employed for supporting the beam in the cradles 24 and 25.
In the drawing and specification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment of the inven- 39 tion and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the appended claim.
In a truck, a longitudinally disposed member, a transversely disposed member secured centrally to the central portion of the longitudinally disposed member, means for rotatably mounting a wheel at each end of both of said members, an upright projecting from each end of the longitudinally disposed member and having transversely disposed cradles secured to the upper end thereof, each of said cradles having a flexible strip of material shorter than said cradle and secured at its ends therein for supporting a web roll and the like.
