2 Claims. (01. -69) invention relates to improvements in metal weatherstrips for windows and has as one of its objects the productionof a Weatherstrip having wide limits of adjustment adapting it tofit and compensate for substantialvariations in the space between the sash and the window frame.
Moreparticularly the invention contemplates a Weatherstrip of the kind-described having interlocking members equally adapted to cooperate and shut out theweather both'when the window sash are swollen byreason'of damp weather'and are shrunk during dry weather; 1 I I A further objectiof the invention is the provision of a two piece Weatherstrip adapted to be economically constructed from sheet metal or the like and for installation onwindows having sliding sashes, one of saidpieces being. fastened to the window frame and the other, being fastened to the sash without requiring any alteration of the frame and slight or no alteration of the sash. The beads 26 and 29 on the member 20 and the bead 32 on the'member 30 not only tend to restrict the clear spaces between the cooperating portions of the members 20 and 30 but also provide lines of bend permitting the members to yield transversely without unduly straining the material in the event of pressure exerted sidewise upon the window. The beaded portions provide sufficient rigidity to prevent substantial side movement of the sash and thereby avoid contact of the sash in raising and lowering and also provides sufficient resistance to wind pressure to avoid rattling of the sash both when )ened andfclosad.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A Weatherstrip of the kind described comprising two cooperating members one adapted to be mounted on and movable with a sliding sash and the other adapted to be fixedly mounted on a window frame, said movable member having one :edge portion comprising a flange adapted to be fastened to the edge of the sash, said flange having its marginal edge inturned and its middle portion corrugated to provide a nailing line, the
middle portion of said movable member beingv folded to provide a loop extending along the side of the sash'with the extremity of said loop providing a bead, the other edge portion of the movable member being folded to provide a flange in spaced substantially parallel relation to said loop, said fixed member having one edge portion folded to provide a loop telescoping oversaid last mentioned flange with its line of fold forming a bead in yieldable sliding contact with the bead on the movable member, the middle portion of said fixed member being folded to provide a narrow rib projecting substantially perpendicular to its looped edge portion, the extremity of said rib providing a bead, the otherjedge of said fixed member extending substantially perpendicular to said rib and having itsmarginal edge forming 'a flange extending oppositely to and substantially parallel with said rib.
2. In combination a window frame having a vertically extending groove in its side, upper and lower' sash slidably mounted in the frame and a parting strip partially embedded in said groove with its projecting portion separating said sash,
.of a Weatherstrip comprising two cooperating members closing the space between said frame and sash, one of said members having its middle portion foldedfto form a rib positioned in said space and extending along the side of the frame with one edge portion wedged between the parting strip and the side and bottom walls of said groove and its other edge portion folded to form a narrow loop extending along the side. of the projecting portion of the parting strips, the lines of bend of said'loop and rib each forming a bead, the other of said'members having one edge providing a corrugated flange fastened to the edge of the sash adjacent said'rib' with its middle portion folded to provide a loop positioned between the first mentioned loop and the side of the sash with its line of bend forming a bead contacting with the bead on said first mentioned loop and its edge portion opposite said flange extending into the first mentioned 'loop'substantially the full depth thereof.
