1 Claim.
The present invention relates to radiocabinets; and the main object thereof is to provide a radiooabinet whose front face displays a visual representation so associated with the oabinets soundemitting opening as to form therewith a combined visual representation, and thus disguise or minimize the impression created by said opening itself; and particularly to create such a representation attractive or interesting to children.
This and any other and more specific objects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the illustrative radiocabinet structure particularly described in the body of this specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is an elevational front view of a radiocabinet, the front wall or face thereof being partially broken away to show the interiorconstruction;
Figure 2 is a sectional view thereof taken on a vertical plane corresponding to line 22 of Figures 1 and 4;
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the same taken on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 3-3 of Figure 1; and
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the same partially sectioned on a horizontal plane corresponding to line 44 of Figure 1.
In the drawing is illustrated a radiocabinet structure containing a radio instrument of any suitable or well known type and having the front wall or face designated generally 1, opposite side walls 2, bottom 3, top 4 and finishing base strips 5. The front face 1 comprises a body portion 6 having the sound-emitting opening '7 therethrough and displays on its outer side a visual representation, such as the pictorial illustration of Mother Goose in a starry sky as shown in. Figure l, or of some nursery rhyme or fairy tale and the like. Said visual representation may be displayed on the body portion 6 of the front face 1; or it may be displayed on a thin face plate 8 united to said body portion as shown.
Such face plate has an opening 9 therethrough corresponding in position with the opening 7 through the body portion 6, and may have a por tion 10 extending over and partially covering the opening 9. A source of light, as the electric bulb 11, in the cabinet and shedding light thereinto and out through the opening '7 may be mounted. in any convenient position as on the inner side of the cabinets front face 1, its rays passing through an opening 12 in the frame work 13 on which is mounted at its peripheral edge the usual ing therein in registration with said sound emitcone-shaped sound-transmitting member 14 of the radio instrument.
It will be seen that sound from the radio instrument and also light from its source 11 are emitted through the opening 7 in the body portion 1 and the opening 9 in the face plate 8 of the front face 1 of the cabinet, and that the portion 10 of the face plate which extends over opening 9 is outlined and accentuated by the light rays emitted past the edges of said extended portion.
The visual effect thus produced by the particu lar representation shown in the drawing is that of Mother Goose on a goose flying through the sky and across the face of the full moon. A 0 translucent sheet 15 may be mounted on the front face 1 of the cabinet so as to extend across its opening 7 and orange-tinted to color the light emitted through openings 7 and 9 and thus heighten the effect of the moon representation.
It will be seen that the visible representation, as the landscape and starry sky shown on face plate 1 merges with said light-emitting opening to form therewith a combined visual representation of striking and pleasing effect, and that by such combination the impression created by the opening itself is minimized and such opening disguised.
While but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described, it will'be understood that other visual or pictorial representations having openings or backgrounds forming a part thereof, which openings or back gfbunds disguise the sound-emitting opening such as are illustrated in our copending applications for design patents, Serial Numbers D 43,429, D 43,430, D 43,431, D 43,432, D 43,433, D 43,434, all. filed on the 8th day of April, 1932, may be likewise used without departing from this invention as the same is defined by the following claim.
We claim:
In a radiocabinet having a sound emitting opening in its front face, a pictorial representation disposed over said front face having an open ting opening and forming a part of said pictorial representation whereby said sound emitting opening is disguised, and illuminating means associated with said sound emitting opening whose light rays are adapted to shine through the opening forming a part of said pictorial representation.
