The present invention'V relates to a spreader or spacer for concrete forms particularly and durable, and otherwise well adapted tol the purpose for which it is designed.,v 1
With the above andV numerous other objects in view as willappear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and .in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be `hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings:
formshowing one of my devices in place.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof. s
Figure 3 isla longitudinal section through one ofthe devices. 4
Figure 4 is a perspective View of an outer section of thedevice,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a tool to manipulate the device, and
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail `section 35 taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numeral 5 denotes the opposed wall of a concrete form. A plurality of my improved spreading or spacing devices will be used but a detail description of one will suilice for all. Each device comprises a pair of sections A and B. Section A includes a channel member 6 slidably receiving a chan-V nel member 7. The channel member 7 has v itssideformed with a plurality of openings 8 to receive bolts 9 which extend through the sides of the member 6 thereby allowing the t section A to be lengthened or shortened. as
(-0 maybe required. Little pointed nibs'l() proor shortened as required.
reliable in use, easy to 'manipulate',' strong Figure 1 is a sectional View through a ject from the `outer ends of the sides of the member 7. The inner ends of the sides of the memberl 6 are providedy with apertu'red ears11.
Section B comprises a member 12 and a 55 Amembei` 1.4v both of channel construction-and formed with pluralitiesiof lopenings 15 in their sides to receive bolts 16' so thatfthe length of the'section B-1nay-'be{lengthened From the outer 6U ends of the sides ofl the'member 14ther`e project pointed nibs 17; l Intermediate `portions of the sides 'ofthe member v12 areV formed with apertured ears 18. A bolt 19 extends through apertured ears 18 and 11, @5 the ears 18 being to the` outer side of the ears 11. A spacer sleeve 20 is disposed cireumjacent the bolt 19 between the ears 11. On the inner end of the `member 12 is an inverted U-shaped member or bail 22 with I0 Y which a hook tool 23 may be engaged.
' After the sections A and B have been adjusted to the desired length the device is placed between the walls 5 somewhat in the angular position shown in YFigure 3 and I6 A then the center of the device is forced downwardly to spread the walls apart the desired distance at which time the sections are alined as shown clearly in Figure 1. No matter how-fardown in the form the device may be, a suitable tool 23 ofproper length 'may be extended down so that the hook end may engage the bail 22 and then by pulling up on the toolthe device may be broken.- from the position shown in Figure 1 to the 35 position shown in Figure 3 and easily pulled out of the form. v
It willbe also noted that the sections 6 and 12 at their outer ends are provided with nibs similar to the nibs 17 so that if the width of the work issuch as to permit of dispensing with the sections 7 and 14 the outer ends of the sections 6, 12 will engage the walls 5 in substantially the same manner as the. outer ends of the sections 7`and 14 95 are adapted to engage the walls as above stated. It will be also noted that each of the sections 6, 7, 12 and 14 at its outer end has the sides thereof extended downwardly forming projections or abutments 24 to en- 100 skilled in this art Without avmoie detailed gage theinner side ofl the Walls 5 as shown inrFigure l. It will be also noted that in providing the abutments 24 edges 25, 26 of material length kare provided at the outer ends of the sections above and below the pointednibs for fiat contact Withthe` inner faces `of the walls, 5 asis also ,shown in Figure'l.
-It is thoughtv that the: construction, op;`
tures et' advantage enumerated as desirable andthe lin the statement of the invention above description.
Ittvvill` lbe apparent "that changes the details of censtructioini and in the combinationi: and arrangement `of `p arts may 1 beresorted to `Without departing iroinrthe'spii'it oiz==scope ofthe inventionrwas hereinafter l.claimed LOr-s'aCi'iiCing any of its advantages.V
