Description

Y June 27, 1933. w LEQNHARDT 1,915,794
PESSARY Filed 001:. 23; 1930 Patented June 27, 1933 UNITED STATES WILHELM LEONHARIDT, OF WISMAR IN MECKLEINBURG, GERMANY PESSARY Application filed October 23, 1930, Serial No. 490,699, and in Germany May 16, 1930.
This invention relates to a pessary of the kind comprising an inflatable member fitted with a conical retaining flange and having an outside pocket for the reception and ejection of medicaments, and its object is to provide means for ensuring a safe delivery of the medicaments against and into the womb.
The object is achieved according to the invention by mounting, on a circumferentially resilient cushion, a dome-shaped cap of soft rubber having in its most prominent portion a centrally disposed inlet and discharge aperal elevation.
Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the pessary.
Fig. 3 is a plan elevation of same.
The improved pessary possesses an air cushion a, which is provided at the center of its bottom 5 with a tubular extension 0 terminating in a tube d of small diameter, which serves for inflating the air cushion a.
Ooncentrically surrounding the tubular extension 0 at some distance from it an annular collar 6 is fixed to the bottom I) of the cushion a so as to form a firm basis for same. A rim f in the shape of a truncated cone is attached with its narrow end to the bottom 6 of the cushion a inside the annular collar e, so that it adheres thereto, the rim f in combination with the bottom I) of the cushion a forming an inverted cup.
The cushion a carries on its top a domeshaped cap 9 having an aperture h at its apex. The space enclosed by the cap 9 and the top of the cushion a serves to confine a disinfectant paste or a medicament suitable in the application of the pessary.
The cushion a with its tubular extension 0 and the tube (1, the annular collar e, the rim f and the dome-shaped cap 9 are formed of soft rubber of suitable. flexibility, elasticity and stability, the collar 6 beingeither hollow or of solid construction.
The pessary in its application is inserted in the vaginal passage with the filled up cap 9 in front. The cap g, being dome-shaped, facilitates the insertion of the pessary, which reaches the required position, when the cap abuts against the womb. Byconing the wearer, the rim 7 in engaging the walls of the vagina safeguarding the tight fitting of the pessary inside the vagina.
The cushion 6 may be inflated with air under atmospheric or higher pressure, the air contained in the cushion being secured therein by tying an airtight knot z' in the tube d which serves for inflating the cushion.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawing the preferred form of my invention it will be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise form shown, for many of the details may be changed in form or position without affecting the operativeness or utility of my invention, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such modifications as are included within the scope of the following claim, or of equivalents to the structure set forth.
What I do claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A pessary of the character described, comprising a circumferentially resilient cushion, a conical retaining flange on said cushion, and a dome-shaped capof soft rubber having in its most prominent domed portion a centrally disposed inlet and discharge aperture, the cushion carrying the cap at one side and the flange at the other side, all in symmetric positions. I v
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 9th day of October 1930.
WILHELM LEONHARDT.
