The invention relates to bead line leather' braces.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of leather vbraces and to provide simple, practical. and comparatively inexpensive leather braces of strong and durable construction having body portionsl provided with a raised ornamental bead extending longitudinally of the body portion and adapted to be made of a.V
color contrasting with that of the body portion so that the leather braces willv present a highly ornamental and attractive appearance. v Y
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, as pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, pro portion, and minor details of construction, within the scope of thevclaims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit Yot or sacrificing any yot the advantages of the invention. Y
In the drawing Figure 1 is an elevation of a pair of bead `line leather braces constructed in accordance with this invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view of a portion of one of the straps or body portions ot the braces; Y p Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 2, illustrating the arrangementof a cord for supporting the bead of the insert.
VFigure 4 is a similar view showing a strip ot material for forming the core of the bead.,
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view of the body portion showing the bead supported by stitching. y Y In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 indicates a pair'of suspenders or braces having each of its body portions 2 constructed of leather and provided at the front with a longitudinal ornamental bead 3. The body portion consists of a strip 4 BEAD LINE LEATHERKBRAGE 1932. Serial No. 627,203.
of yleather folded along longitudinal lines the bead 3 is arranged and through which the saidbead 3 projects. The bead 3 pro'- jects slightly beyond the outer faces of the {iaps 5 and is designedfto be of a color contrastingwith the color of the iiaps so that Y the body portion willpresent an ornamental and attractive appearance.
The bead is formed by an insert 7 consistingof a strip of leather or other material Vof a width to extend entirely across the body portion and to form the bulging bead 3 and it is composed of the said bead 3 and side portions which are secured beneath the iaps 5 Vand between the same and the body portion of the leather strip by cement or other adhesive Ymaterial, and by lines of stitching 8 located at opposite sides of the bead in spaced rrelation to the same and the inner edges of the flaps and piercing the `latter, the side portions of the insert and the body portion of the leather Strip as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing. The side portions of the insert are concealed beneath the side flaps of the main leather strip 4.
In Figure 3 of the drawing the outwardly bulging portion or bead 3 of the insert 7 is supported by a core consisting of a cord 9 which is adapted to maintain the bead in its curved sectional contour and prevent collapsing of the bead. The cord 9 may be secured in the bead by adhesive material if desired.
In Figure 4 of the drawing thevbead 10,
a central bead vor bulging portion 12 adapted to substantially fill the' bead 10 of the strip 13 and having its side portions secured in contacting relation by means of a line of is supported by a core consisting of astrip v11 of material composed of side portions and 13 which is exposed in the space between the flaps 15 and which is bulged to form the bead 1() will be of thinner material than the core forming strip. The side portions of the insert 13 and the side portions of the strip 11 are secured together and to the strip 16'l by cement or other suitable adhesive material and also by lines of stitching 17 located at opposite sides of the central bead. i Y Y j In' Figure 5 of the drawing the bead or bulged portion 18 of the insert 19 has its sides secured in contacting relation by means of a line of stitching 20'located below or in rear of the plane of the outer faces of the side flaps 21 of the leather strip 22. The insert consists of a strip of leather or other suitable material secured between the side flaps 21 and the body portion of the strip 22 by cement or other suitable adhesive material and also by lines of stitching 23' located at opposite sides of the bead 18 and piercing the iiaps 21, the insert 19 and the body portion of the leather strip 22.
'What is claimed is: Y Y 1. Braces having body portions each comprising a strip of material having its side portions folded inwardly along longitudinal lines forming longitudinal side flaps spaced apart to provide an intervening space, and an insert consisting of a strip of material secured within the body portion and having a bead arranged in and projecting through the space between the said flaps.
2. Braces having body portions each comprising a strip of material having its side portions folded inwardly along longitudinal lines forming longitudinal side flaps spaced apart to provide an intervening space, and an insert composed of a bead and.
