The present invention relates to signalling devices with two electrically operated signa s, one of which should always be m functio Signalling devices of this kind are ge'nerally used in connection with controlling devices for railway and street trailic,util1zing differently coloured light in order to indicate wh'ether'the street or railroad is free or blocked. v 1
Further, signalling devices of thisliind are utilized in connection with switch board indicators for'the supervision and control of electrical plants as well as of railway junc tions and the like.
The electric lines *for a device of this kind must be so connected that one signal is automatically put in operation when the other signal is switched out and vice versa.
This is obtained in accordance with the present invention in a simple manner by connecting the electric actuating devices for both signals in series between the electric current supply lines of the device, and giving one actuating device a higher electric resistance than the other, whereas the actuating device with the highest electric resistance is provided with means for being short-circuited in order to be put out of operation.
When both actuating devices are connected in series, the one having the largest electric resistance will be actuated alone, as .it does not permit the passage of a sufficient amount of current to actuate the other device.

In case the signals consist of lamps with different colours, one chooses according to the invention one lamp with high filament resistance, and another lamp with low filament resistance, in the case of relays, coils are utilized.

Referring to the drawing 1, 2, 3, 4: indi-. cates the sections of a secondary line corresponding to the sections of aprimary line which is not indicated on the drawing.
The sections 1, 2 an 3, 4 are intercom V nected by means of switches .5, 6, 7, which are controlled in any convenient manner by the corresponding switches of the primary line., The control of the switches 5, 6, 7 may be purely mechanical ormay be electric or may be carried out in any other conventional manner well known from switch board indicatbrs. V
- The terminal sections 1, 4 are connected with the positive feed line. The sections 2, 3, thecondition of which is to be indicated by the switch board indicator are-each connected with a red lamp R and the green lamp G which are connected in series between the positive and negative feed lines.
' One of the lamps, for instance the red lamp, has a low filament resistance which may be obtalned for instance by utilizing a carbon filamentfor that lamp, whereas the other lamp, in this case the green lamp, has a high filament resistance.
In the position indicated on the drawing, the green lamp'will burn and the red lamp will remain dark'as the green lamp does not let uflicient current through for operating the red lamp.
N If switch 5 is closed, this will however have the effect of short-circuiting the green lamp and the red lamp will now receive current directly from the positive line and will be actuated.
In. case the red lamp does not function, no current can pass to the green lamp, so that in this case none of the lamps will be actuated.
I claim.
A switch hoard indicator for the. sn per-v vision of a system of lines, electric lanes,
K railway lines, pipe lines and the like and the connecting devices thereof, means for indicating .on the switch board indicator the condition of separate sections of the lines,
,7 said means comprising Imirs of erently colored lamps with difierent filament resistance connected in series, and means controlled by the switches of the line system represented on the switch hoard indicator for slfort-circuiting the lamps having the hi hest filament resistance.
