Divided and this application filed March 8, 1933. Serial No. 660,012.
'15 section;
F ig. 2 is a section view of the package of Fig. 1, parts being shown in another position.
The package of the invention includes a 2o spool and a container, these parts being relatively movable, although non-separable. The spool comprises a cylindrical member having its annular or circular edges spun around the inner edges of the apertured discs 22 and 23 to form a spool. A roll 24 of ribbon, adhesive tape, or the like may be wound around the cylindrical member 20, between the discs 22 and 23 in the usual manner. The outer edges of the discs are beaded, as indicated at 26 and 27, and the disc 23 may be deformed to provide a raised portion 28 for purposes to be described later. The container of the invention includes a cylinder 29 having inwardly turned or beaded edges 30 and 31, and also having inwardly projecting snap beads or grooves 32 and 33 for purposes to be described.
When the spool and container are assembled to form a package the beaded edge 27 of the disc 23 is disposed between the beads 30 and 31 of the container. The outer diameter of the bead 27 is proportioned to be greater than the inner diameter of the beaded edges 3031 but less than the inner diameter of the container 29. Accordingly, the spool may be slid up and down in the container from the position of Fig. 4 to that of Fig. 3 and return without there being any danger of disassembling or separating the parts.
When the package is collapsed, as in Fig. 2, the container protects the adhesive tape and the bead 33 cooperates with the head 27 to maintain the parts immovable. When the package is opened up to expose the tape and to permit its being used, the head 32 cooperates with the bead 26 to maintain the parts immovable in distended position for tape exposure. v
It will be seen that by providing the raised portion 28 in the disc 23, the lower edge of the tape 24: is slightly above the upper edge of the bead 30. Accordingly, the latter does not interfere with unravelling of the tape.
If desired, the container and spool may be made non-circular, in the form of an ellipse, square, hexagon, etc., to prevent relative rotation of the spool and the container. Further, if desired, the beads 3233 may be replaced by inwardly struck snap points which shall have the same function.
Now having described a preferred embodiment of the invention, reference will be had to the following claims which determine the scope of the invention.
I claim:
