My invention isconcerned with window washers safety appliances, and is designed to produce a harness clip that can be manipulated much more easily than those heretofore used, together with a novel anchor construction that can be applied to window casings provided with moldings of different designs.
; To illustrate my invention, I annex hereto two sheets of drawings, in which the same reference characters are used to designate identical parts in all the figures, of which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of 'a window having my invention applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the clip detached;
Fig. 3 is a central vertical section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, showing the novel clip as applied to the novel anchor;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view showing how the anchor is applied;
Figs. 5 and 6 are front and side elevations, respectively, of the anchor;
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of an element forming a part of the combination; and
Figs. 8 and 9 are end views of the same element in a modified form.
In carrying out my invention in its preferred form, I preferably employ an anchor member 10, preferably a casting, which has the flattened base portion 10 with the preferably square bolt-hole 11 therethrough to co-operate with the square portion 12 of the bolt 13. It has projecting outwardly from its ends the anchor lugs 14, and on its under side it has the positioning lugs 15 which are of the proper shape to cooperate with the recess 16 formed in the ends of the outer face of the intermediate block 17, which is triangular in cross section, and is provided with the centrally located, preferably circular, bolt-hole 18 to co-operate with the portion of the bolt 13 passing therethrough. The purpose of the intermediate block 17 is to co-operate with the generally angular surface of the window molding 20, through which the bolt 13 passes before it passes through the window casing 21 to which the molding is secured. As these moldings 20 Serial H0. 500,663.
vary in design in different windows, I contemplate supplying with the outfit other intermediate blocks 1'7 and 17 which will be identical with the block 17 except that the angles thereof vary so that they are adapted to co-operate with moldings having different angles, in a manner which will be readily understood.
In connection with the pairs of anchors thus secured on either side of the windows, I employ the customary window-washers harness, and on the ends thereof I secure the novel clips showns in Figs. 2 and 3, where it will be seen to consist of a casting 22 having apreferably circular aperture 23 at one end thereof, in which the rope of the harness is secured, and it is provided with the elongated, straight aperture 242 having flanges 25 surrounding the same on the sides and one end thereof, so that the clip can'be slipped over the heads 14 of the anchor in engagement of its free end with the upper anchor head 14, the clip cannot be accidentally disengaged from the anchor. For the purpose of expeditiously and readily disengaging the clip from the. anchor, I secure on the leaf spring 26 the generally U-shaped hook 28, which will be preferably rounded in cross section,*and may be secured by having the reduced end thereof passed through an aperture in the spring 2.6 and swaged in a manner clearly shown at 29 in Fig. 3.
The operation of the apparatus will be readily understood from the description heretofore given, except that it may be noted that when the clip is to be released from the anchor, all that the user has to do is to insert a fore-finger in the hook 28 and pull outward and upward, which action results in a single movement of the clip disengaging it from the anchor, as the outward movement lifts the end of the leaf spring out of the plane of the lugs or heads 14 of the anchor and at the same time slides the clip upward and oil of the anchors.
While I have herein shown and described a novel clip, I do not herein claim the same, but reserve the subject matter thereof for a divisional application.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States, is:
1. In a window-washers safety appliance, the combination with an anchor bolt, of an anchor having a head, a bolt-hole therethrough and a positioning lug, and a compensating block generally triangular in cross section having a bolt-hole registering with the anchor-bolt hole, and having a recess complementary to the positioning lug, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a window-washers safety appliance, the combination with an anchor bolt, of an anchor having a head, a bolt-hole therethrough and a positioning lug at each end,
and a compensating block generally triangular in cross section, having a bolt hole registering with the anchor-bolt holeand having a recess at each end complementary to the positioning lug on the anchor, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In a window-washers safety appliance, the combination with an anchor bolt, of an anchor having a head, a square bolt-hole therethrough and a positioning lug at each end, and a compensating block generally triangular in cross section, having a circular bolt-hole registering with the anchor-bolt hole and having a recess at each end complementary to thepositioning lug on the anchor, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4:. In a window washers safety appliance, the combination with an anchor bolt, of an anchor having a head, a bolt hole therethrough and a positioning lug, and one of a plurality of compensating blocks generally triangular in cross section but of different thicknesses, each having a bolt hole registering with the anchor bolt-hole, and
having a recess complementary to the positioning lug, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of December, 1930.
