'My invention relates to an electrical socket tor theprongs oi a plug-in device, such as a plug terminus ot a cable or a vacuum tube. This a plication is a division of my apphcation, erial Number 341,695, upon which @stent 1,7 30,77 8 issued November 4, 1930.

A further object of my invention is to provide a non-integralguiding means in combination with a socket for the purpose o overlying portions oit astenings of the metallic contact members in insulating relation.

My invention resides in the structures and ifeatures herein after described and claimed.

elements 6 vthat are resiliently supported by iii-shaped element 7.- Contact elements (i are free to adapt themselves to the contour `of lthe inserted prongs of a plug-in device andare integral with the U-shaped portion 7. The upper (outer) ends of the U-shaped members are provided with tail extensions 8, 9 bent at right angles to the arms of the U. These extenslons sup ort the contact struc ture and are clamp between the plates 1 and 3. The extension 8 is clamped at itsend and the extension 3 is clamped at an intermediate portion permitting its end 10` to protrude through hole 11 in plate 3. The protruding part is used as a soldering lug for attachment oi a wire so as to include it wlthin an electric circuit. The extreme end of the tail emnsion 8 is provided with an upwardly extended (laterally with re ct to the planes of the plates) portion 12 w ich ts -into the .small -hole 13 in the upper plate 1. Y The raised non-integral disc or boss 15 1s positioned upon the top of the upper plate in such relation that the holes 2 for the -prongs of the plug-in device are arranged substantially around the outside circumference of this boss, thus adapting the boss to act as a guide member when inserting vaeuum tubes or lug-in devices. While I have illustrated the gui e disc or boss 15 as centrall disposed with respect to holes 2 it is obvlous to one skilled in the art that the ide boss could be mounted inother relation with respect to holes 2 in overlying and insulating relation with the contact structure. It is likewise obvious that the contact structure could be supported entirely rom a point outside the area bounded by the prong apertures 2 vas shown in my parent application.
In view of my invention -and disclosure other variations and modifications to meet individual choice or particular need `will doubtless become evident tothose skilled in the art. I therefore, claim all such modifications in so far as they fall within the reasonable spirit and scope of my invention.
What I claim as new is:
1. In a socket receptacle, a plate of insulaltion material'having a group of assages to receive the prongs of a plug-inP evice, contact structure for said prongs depending from said plate adjacent said passages extending thru said plate and having fastenings, a second plate of insulation material perforated to correspond with the passages of the first, superimposed, on the first plate on the side opposite the contact terminals and engaging the lurality of said fastenings, a disc of insu ation material overlying said second late and aplurality of the fastenings, said) disc being centrally disposed with respect to said passages, and means for securing said plates and said disc together in assembled relation.
2. In a socket receptacle a plate of insulation material having a group of assages to receivethe prongs of a vacuum. tu e, contact structure for said prongs depending from said plate extending thruA said plate and having metallic fastenin one set of fastenings having portions fing outside said group of passages, and another set having portions inside said group, a second plate of lnsulation material superposed on and secured to said first plate and covering a plu- 'alityof said fastening portions, and a guidingemsulating disc for the prongs of said tu secured to said plates and overlying the inside group bf said fastening portions.
3. An integral spring connector for a pin terminal of a elongated sheet metal U-stxip having the outer ends of the strip bent at anv angle to the adjoining arms of' the U, the ends comprising, one an intermediate portion having united integrally therewith a soldering connection, and the other an end to be clamped, contact members laterally olf-set, one from each arm, and substantially co-extensive therewith, an insulation plate perforated torethe arms of the U, a second insulation plate perforated for passage of the pins and plug-in device comprising anl with the openings, contact structure con-` nectedwith said clips, each comprising a U- shaped'contact carrying member extending through one ofthe openings'and having the ends of the U spread away from each other,

5. In a socket receptacle, a.. plurality of clips, a pair of plates of insulation material, one plate `having spaced openings, intermediate portions of the clips held between the the end are plates and the other apertured in line with the openings, contact `structure connected with said portions, each comprising a U- shaped contact carrying member extending through one of the openings and having the ends of the U spread away from each other, one inwardly and the other outwardly, one end comprising the intermediate portlon of that clip and both ends clamped between the two plates, a central fastening for the plates bringing substantially e ual pressure upon the inwardly directed -ends 4about the fastening and reinforcing pressure means concentric with respect to the fastener and held by the fastenin to increase the pressure yupon the inwardly irected ends.
6. In a socket receptacle,-a plurality .of clips a pair of plates one plate havmg spaced openin intermediate portions of the clips helcs between the platesand the other perforated in line with the openings, contact structure connected with said portions, each comprisin a U -shaped contact carrying member oxtendmg through one of the openings and having the ends of the U spread away from each other, one inwardly and the other outwardly, one end comprising the intermediate portlon of that clip and both ends clamped between the two plates,'a central fastening for the plates bringing substantially equal pressure upon the inwardly directed U-ends about the fastening, reinforcing pressure means concentric with respect to the fastener and held Y pressure upon the inby it to increase the wardly directed ends and outer fastenings holding the two plates together outside of the contact carrying members.
7. In a socket receptacle, a pair of plates las' iao
of insulation material having openings in one of the plates and the other being apertured in line with the openings, U-shaped contact carrying members, one in each of the openings and having ends extending in opposite directions between the plates one set inwardly and the other set outwardly on opposite sides of the openings so that the two e ends are clamped between the plates, a disc reinforcement for the plates located on the inner sides of the U and assisting in holding the adjoining ends of the Contact carrying members and acting as guides tor the plugs to be inserted therein and central retaining means common to the disc and plates.
8. 'n a socket receptacle, a plate of insulaytion material having a group of passages to receive the prongs of a vacuum tube, Contact structure for said prongs depending from said plate, extending through said plate and having metallic astenings, one set of fastenings havin portions extending outwardly outside sai group of passages and including intermediate portions and terminal soldering portions, and another set having portions extending inwardly inside said group, a second plate of insulation material su erimposed on and secured to said first p am, covering and clamping said outside and inside fastening portions and apertured in line with the passages o the first plate, projections upon the inwardly extending portions each fitting into a space in one of said plates to lock these portions against withdrawal 35 parallel to the planes of the plates, a disc adjoining and supporting the second plate to additionally clamp the inwardly extending fastening portions and means for holding the disc and plates together.
