' This invention relates to dishwashing machines, and it particularly relates to an improved means of attaching the tank of a dishwashing machine to a sink construction to 5 provide a combined sink dishwasher for domestic installation.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide-an improved means of attaching vertical dishwashing machine tanks of c lindrical or other shape to a sink structure a apted to be placed permanently in position in a kitchen, particularly when the openings in' the sink construction for the dishwashing machine are not of the same size and shape as the tank of the machine.
- A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved meansof supporting and suspending the tank of a dishwashing machine of general application.
Other objects will-appear during the course of the following description. p
Upon the accompanying drawings is shown one embodiment of the invention as it is applied to the attachment of a spray-projector and described" in copending application'Serial No. 389,696, filed August 31,1929, to a sink eral to various supporting or suspension structures other than. sink constructions adapted to be domestically installed.

InFig. 1 the sink construction consists of a depressed sink portion 20, a dishwasher supporting portion 21 and a backboard 22 upon which are placed the various controls for admitting liquid, either hot or cold, to the sink or to the washing chamber of the dishwashing machine, and also the controls for turning on the dishwashing machine and for causing drainage of the dishwashin machine. To the portion 21 of the sin con-. struction is attached the cylindrical tank 23 of the dishwashingma'chme. In the usual sink dishwasher construction, the part of the sink construction provided for attachment of the dishwashing machine is usually square or rectangular, and it is the purpose of this invention to enable theattachment of as large a tank, preferably of cylindrical cross-section, to this portion of the sink construction as possible. It will be noted (see particularly Figs. 2 and 3) that the cy lin'drical tank 23 of the dishwashing machine in. the places 24 comes well within the space provided for its attachment, but in still other places 25 projects outwardly beyond the largest desirable opening.
To accommodate thetank the sink construction portion 21 is provided with a depending wall-26, which approximately fits the tank of the machine at which is provided with an adapter ring 27 (more fully shownin 3 and 6) which e portions 24;and
serves to contact with and support the 'portions of the tank which project beyond the Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and is shown removed from the tank in Figs. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. The adapter'ring 27 extends around the tank so that its lower surface will be flush with the bottom of the wall 26 (see Figs. 4 and 5). This adapter ring in the embodiment shown is formed of a continuous band 41 of substantially square or rectangular shape having 5 rounded corners (see Figs. 3 to 10) which hand is provided with outwardly projecting webs 42 at the places 25 (see Figs. 3, 6 and 9) with the outwardly projecting aws 43 which in the embodiment shown are of greater thickness than the webs 42 (see Fig. 10) forming means of attachment for the tank; with the outwardly and upwardly projecting ears 44 forming an additional support from the sink structure which is adapted to function to retain the ring 41 in position if it becomes loosened (see Figs. 4 and 7) and with the cooperating ears 45 (see Fig. 8) 'serving as a means of attaching together the ends'of the split ring 41 and tightly clamping the ring upon the lower portions of the depending walls 26 of the sink structure. 7
The attaching ring 41 is separated from the outside of the walls 26 by means of the rubber gasket or washer 46 (see Figs. 4 and 5) and it is held together by means of the ears 45, through which a bolt 47 is fitted (see Fig. 3). The sink construction is providedwith the downwardly projecting members 56 which are conveniently four in number and placed adjacent the portions 24 (see Figs. 2, 3 and 4) The downward projections 56 support the attaching ring 41 in the manner shown upon Figs.- 3 and 4. As shown in these figures the ears44 of the ring 41 are connected to the lower part of the projections 56 by means of the bolts 57 As stated before the supporting system formed by the cooperation of the lugs 44 and 56 is an emergency system. The bolts 57 are placed in position after the ring 41 has been properly located and clamped on the depending walls 26 by the bolt 47.
As previously stated, the top of the dishwashing machine is adapted to be attached to the lower sides of the ring 41 at the portions 24 (see Fig. 4) and is adapted to contact with the webs 42 attached to the ring 41 at the portions 25 (see Figs. 1 and 5). The top of the tank is provided with an outwardly projecting roll 58 (see Figs. 1, 4 and 5), over which roll is placed the rubber ring 59. This rubber ring 59 is adapted to .fit the roll in such manner that it will be compressed between said roll and the lower side of the ring 41 or the web 42 when the tank is supportedor suspended from the sink structure. The inner edge of the rubber contact ring 59 is substantially flush with the wall of the tank (see Figs. 4 and 5) in the embodiment shown. The tank of the machine is attached to. the sink structure and to the ring 41 by means of the portions 43 (see particularly Figs. 3 and 5) The bracket member 60 provided with an opening for a bolt has a portion 61 adapted to fit under the roll 58 at the top of the tank. The bolts 62 are adapted to pass down through the portions 43 and through the bracket 60 to firmly attach the top of the tank to the attachment ring 41. The outer vertical portion 64 of the brackets 60 in the embodiment shown is of substantially the same length as the height of the roll 58, so that the pressure against the rubber ring 59 between the roll 58 and the web 42 or ring 41-will be substantially perpendicular to the underside of the web 41 or ring 42. When the tank is clamped in position the horizontal section of the clamp should be substantially parallel to the top surface of the jaws 43.
Inthis manner a very firm water-tight consupporting structures when the openings in said sink structures are of different shape and size than the horizontal cross-section of the washing chamber formed by the tank,
and particularly when the horizontal area of the washing chamber is greater than the opening in the sink structure. However, the attachment or suspension arrangement of the present invention is also adapted to be utilized in attaching tanks to openings in the sink or supporting structure, when such openings are of the same shape or are of larger horizontal area than the washing chamber formed by the tank of the machine. In the embodiment shown, the ring 41 is supported in position due to the fact that it is clamped to the lower ends of the walls 26. The ring 41 may be of different cross-section than shown and may be split at more than one place, (and, if desired, an additional number of cooperating supporting brackets 56 and 44 may be provided). As shown there are eight brackets 60 for attaching the top of the tank to the ring 41, but the number may be varied.
- As shown the webs 42 are thinner than jaws 43 and the jaws 43 are of less thickness than the ring 41. The projections 44 and 45, however, are of greater thickness than the ring 41.- If desirable all these parts may be of the same thickness, but the present construction is usually preferable since it represents a substantial saving in material. The jaws 43 are for the greater part shown in radial position, but, if desired, they may be placed in other positions.
The foregoing detailed description has I portions, and support' claims should be construed as broadly asper missible in view of the prior art.
What is claimed is:
1. In a dishwasher sink combination, a shelf provided with a downwardly pro ecting skirt forming an opening, an adapter ring secured around the lower portion of sea skirt and forming a water ti ht connection therewith, outwardly exten g web ortions on said ring, and a dishwasher ta greater cross section than said opemng supported by said rin and forming a water tight connection witi said web extensions.
2. In a dishwasher sink combination, a
shelf provided with a downwardl projecting skirt forming a polygon sha opening an adapter rin conforming to the shape oi said skirt and c amped around the lower portion thereof, said ring being provided with outwardly extending web portions conforming to the sha of a dishwashing machine tank and a dlshwashing machine of greater cross section than said opemng cured to said ring and forming a water tight connection with said web rtions.
3. In a dishwasher combination, a shelf provided with a downwardl projecting skirt forming a polygon sha olpening an adapter rin conforming to the s ape of said skirt and camped around the lower portion thereof, said ring being provided with outwardly extending web portions, a circular dishwashing machine tank of greater cross section than said opemng' and provided with overturned edges adjacent said web mg with said ring and t e overturned edges of said tank for holding the latter in position.
4. In a dishwasher sink shelf provided with a downwardly projecting skirt of rectangular shape'and having concentric rounded corners, an ada ter conforming to the shape of said $11225 clamped around the lower portion thereof, web portions extending outwardly from the straight sides of sai ring, a dishwashing machine tank provided with overturned ed fitted against said ring and said web portions, supportingmembers oo- 0 rating with saidri and the overturned efies of said tank to ho d the latter in position, lugs on said shelf, and lugs'on said rin perating with said shelf lugs to hold said n% in position.
