Patented Mar. 14, 19533 UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE SAMUEL ALIIMIE'NA AND'WILLIAM NAUMAIIN, or scmivron, PENNSYLVANIA SLIDING 15mm AND WAVE our Application filed fi'ovember 11, 1932. Serial No. 642,292.
This invention relates to a clip used in the general object of the invention being to provide a U-shaped member of flexible material and a sheath in which one limb of the member is slidably arranged, so that the clip can be easily and quickly engaged with a bunch ofhair, and just as easily released from the hair without disarranging the hair.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and
l I erence will be had to the specifically claims.
In describing the invention'in detail refaccompanying drawing wherein' like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an edge view of the device pointed out in the appended with a part broken away. i
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3' is a top plan view with the clip partly pulled from the sheath.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 44 of'Fig. 3. shown in this drawing, the device comprises a substantially U-shaped member 1 formed of spring metal or the like and an grcuatesheath 2m which one limb of the member 1 is slidably arranged. One end of the sheath is closed and its other end is opened to receive said limb of the member 1 and the open end is reduced as shown at,
3 to prevent the large end 4 of said limb from being entirely removed from the sheath asshow'n in Fig. 3.
The pin or member 1 is pulled out of the sheath as 'far as pomible, and then the sheath is placed undef that part of the hair to be waved or engaged by the device. The sheath is held in position with the finger of one hand, by slightly holdin it against Then the free limb-o the pin or member '1 is lifted by the thumb nail or the bunch of hair with another part of the hand and slipped over the middle finger so that when the free limb is released, the
device will clamp the hair between said free 'which can be easily and quick limb and the sheath. In removing the de- I not disarrange the hair.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.-
It is to be made in the construction and in the combination and; arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended'cl'aims.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a substantially formed of spring materialand a sheath in which one limb of the member is slidably arranged said sheath having one end closed and its other end open with said one limb passing throu h sheath being 0 to the length of said one-limb.
2. A device of the class described com prising a substantially U-shaped member formed of spring material, a sheath havin one end closed and its other end open, am in which one limb of the U shaped member is'slidably' arranged, the open-end being reduced and the extremity of said limb'being enlarged to prevent said limb from being entirely removed from the sheath.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signa U-shaped member be understood that changes may the. open end and said a length substantially equal
