The present invention relates to pipebending machine supports and particularly to supports of such character thatpipe of vari- ,ous sizes may be readily bent Without having 1' to install supports of different sizes for the various sizesof pipes to be bent.
An object-of the present invention-is -to al view taken substantiallyinthe plane of provide supports for pipe bending machines which supports have a plurality of active faces of different transverse contours and Widths whereby anyface may be moved into pipe bending position.
Another object of the invention is to provide roller like supports for pipe bending machines which supports have a plurality of bending zones of various depths and widths disposed in peripherally spaced relation.
A further obj'ect of the invention is to pr0- vide supports for pipe bending machines 0 which supports 'are roller like and have concave peripheries with landstherein peripherally spaced and disposed at different distances from the roller axes and with the "distances betweentheside wallsi varied to correspond to the depth of the-lands I from the peripheral iilargins of therollers; v i A still further object of the invention is to provide supports for pipe bending machines which supports are'eng'ageable by the pipe being bent andwhich are readily moved for presenting-to thepipe jaws of proper depth and'configuration forthe particular pipe.
Generally speaking the invention contemr plates the provision of a pairof rollers forh use with pipe bending machines which rollers have concave faces provided with lands of diflerent cross sectional contour and which are disposed at different distances from the rolleraxes and also in which the concave faces vary in width so that any pipe within certain limits may be bent with proper angularity .by moving the rollers in such manner as to present-as active faces thereof the lands andcontours corresponding'with thelparticular pipe The above, other; and further objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description, accompanying drawing, and appended clalms.

The supports of the present invention may be used with any type of pipe bending ma-.
chine and might be very readily used with the type of bending machine illustrated and described in the copending application of Lidseen and Flanagan Serial No. 428,879.
The supports are illustrated herein as rollers 12 and each roller is made preferably as a casting having concave faces for receiving portions of the pipe to be bent and provided with lands which are disposed at varying distances from the axes of the rollers so that pipes of various diameters may be readily accommodated.
A roller 12 is illustrated herein as having seven lands 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 which as will be observed are disposed at different distances from the axle 7 of the roller or support 12.
The roller illustrated in Figure 1 has the flanges forming the various pipe receiving recesses in the roller disposed at different widths so'that a pipe may be supportedcircumferentially and transversely during the bending operation.
Figures 3 to 9 inclusive illustrate cross sectional'views of the various pipe bending zones of the illustrated rollers and as there illustrated clearly show the lands at varying distances from the axes of the rollers and with the sidewalls or flanges of varying widths. V
The bending zones represented in Figures 8 to 9 inclusive representbendingzones for pipes as follows: Figure 3 for pipe of 1 inch diameter; Fi ure 4 for pipe of 3 inch 1 diameter; Figure o for pipe of 2-inch diameter; Figurefi for pipe of 4 inch diameter;
Figure 7 for pipe of 2 inch diameter; Figure 8 for pipe of 4 inch diameter, and Figure 9 for pipe of 3 inch diameter. These bending zones are merely illustrative of the present invention as of course the rollers or supports might be made with the bending zones to accommodate pipes of other sizes if desired.
The rollers 12 in Figure 2 are disposed with the bending zones including the lands 16 in active position so that as the pipe 11 is forced thereagainst by the plunger 9 the pipe will be bentbeing at all times supported against the lands 16 and within the compass of the side walls of the bending zones to prevent deformation or kinking of the pipe.
The roller, support, or abutment illustrated in Figure 10 has numerals 2O thereon,
' designating the sizes of pipe which may be building construction where such bending machines are carried from place to place and from floor to floor as the work progresses for bending steam pipes, electrical conduits, plumbing pipes and. the like and where in the course of installation pipes of various diameters are employed;
The supports of the present invention might of course be used with the bulldozer type of bending machine or any other type and the construction of the claims must be made accordingly. 1
The invention has been described herein more or lessprecisely as to details yet it is to be understood that changes may be made in the arrangement and proportion of parts and that equivalents may be substituted without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention is claimed as follows:
1. In a pipe bending machine, a rotatable pipe support comprising a roller having a pair of upstanding annular flanges with opposed curved inner faces defining a concaved channel to receive pipe to be bent on said roller, said flanges being spaced apart in stepped increasing relation to accommodate pipes of increasing diameter, said flanges also defining a channel of stepped increasing depth coincident with their stepped increasing spaced apart relation.
2. In a pipe bending machine, a rotatable pipe support comprising a roller having a pair of upstanding annular flanges with opposed curved inner faces defining a concaved channel to receive pipe to be bent on said roller, said flanges being spaced apart in stepped increasing relation to accommodate pipes of increasing diameter, said flanges also defining a channel of stepped increasing depth coincident with their stepped increasing spaced apart relation, said roller having web portions connecting said flanges presenting bending zones with the bottom of said zones being in substantially straight line relation transversely of the roller axis.
