Side guides 15 are hinged to the top edges of side walls 19 by means of hinges 22. Thus said guides can be moved into upright positions to engage the side edges of the ledger sheets and keep the latter properly aligned (see Figs. 1 and 3). Said guides can be moved into displaced or lower positions, as shown in full lines in Figure 2 and in dotted lines in Figure 3, so as to leave said platform open and to facilitate the positioning and removal of said ledger sheets.

When said guides occupy raised positions the distance between the inner faces thereof is substantially the same as t-he width of sheets D, so that the latter are held at allI times in aligned positions. As the ledger covers A and C are of greater widths than said sheets D, the rear end of each guide is provided with a notch 24 which when said guides occupy upright positions provide the necessary clearance for the corners of covers C and at the same time serve to` hold the latter against displacement.

, The forward ends of said guides are provided with obliquely disposed grooves or seats 25 which when said guides occupy raised positions engage the edges of the front cover A and serve to hold the latter against displacement. Thus said guides in addition to their function of maintaining the sheets in proper relation with each other also serve to hold the covers in proper relation with said sheets .and against accidental displacement.

The rear end wall extends a suitable distance above latform 14, as indicated at 12a, and is provilded adjacent to one side with a flanged retaining member 26 which is adapted to receive and overlap the corresponding side edge of the rear ledger cover when the latter is placed on the'rack. Thus a stop is provided for said cover so that the latter is accurately positioned and retained relatively to said le ger leaves.`

Each side wall 19 is provided near its forward end with an inwardly presented notch or recess 27 which permits the front cover A to enter pocket 17. In order to prevent the foremost ledger leaf when placed against cover A from slipping into pocket 17 a stop plate 28 is provided'. This plate is slidably mounted in the intermediate wall 16 andV when in extended position, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 4, it projects above' said platform surface 21 and forms a stop for the ledger leaves. The plate is provided with a suitable finger hold 29 by means of which it can be manipulated and the wall 16 and platform 14 are provided with a

30 and 31, respectively, which permit the manual engagement of finger hold 29.

In using the device, the covers A are disengaged from Veach other and placed in position shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. The ledger leaves are preferably placed against the cover A and are then placed against cover C as the operator gets through with eac-h ledger sheet. The guides 15 being placed in upright positions serve to retain the covers in their proper positions and the ledger sheets D are maintained in proper alignment with each other so that when the operator is through with the ledger the binding post B can be readily placed in position without the necessity of manipulatin the ledger sheets.

lVhen the cover occupies position in the rack the binding posts B are disposed in the side pockets 20, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1, so Vthat said binding posts do not interfere with the movement of said ledger sheets.

My improved rack is of simple construction, is so arranged that the ledger sheets can be moved from one cover to the other or removed from the rack, and both the covers and the ledger sheets are safely held in their proper positions on said rack.

I claim:

1. A rack-for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform fork supporting the ledger leaves, a rear wall extending from said platform for supportin the rear cover of said ledger in substanti ly upright position, and a front wall spaced forwardly from said platform and extending below the latter for supporting the front cover in substantially upright positionand on a horizontal plane a suitable distance below said platform.

2. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform for supporting ledger leaves, a rear wall extending upwardly from said platform for supportin the rear cover of said ledger in substantiallgy upright position whereby said ledger leaves can rest against said rear cover, a front wall disposed forwardly of and in s aced relation with the forward end of said p atform for supporting the front cover of said ledger in substantiall upright position and in spaced relation with' said sheets and said rear cover.

3. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform for supporting ledger leaves, a rear wall extending upwardlyfrom said platform for supporting the rear cover of said ledger in substantially upright position whereby said ledger leaves can rest against said rear cover, a front wall disposed forwardly of and in s aced relation with the forward end of said p atform for supporting the front cover of said ledger in substantially upright position and in spaced relation with said sheets and said rear cover, and means for engaging the side edges of said ledger leaves and maintaining the latter in alignment with each other.

4. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform for supporting ledger leaves, a rear wall extending upwardly from said platform for supporting the rear cover of said ledger in substantially upright position whereby said ledger leaves can rest against said rear cover, a front wall disposed forwardly of and in spaced relation with the forward end of said platform for supporting the front cover of said ledger in substantially upright position and in spaced relation with said sheets and said rear cover, means for engaging the side edges of said ledger leaves and maintaining the latter in alignment with each other, and a stop member on the rear wall of said rack for engaging one of the side edges of said rear cover and maintaining the latter in proper relation with said sheets.

5. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising in combination a raised platform for supporting the ledger leaves, a rear wall extending upwardly from said platform for supporting the rear cover of said ledger in substantially upright position, a front wall arranged in spaced relation with the forward end of said platform for supporting the front cover of said ledger in substantially upright position in spaced relation with said sheets, and a guide disposed longitudinally and in spaced relation on each side of said platform, said guides being movable into upward positions to engage the side edges of said ledger leaves and hold the latter in proper alignment with each other, said guides being movable downwardly below the plane of said platform so as to provide working clearance for said ledger leaves.

6. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platformY for supporting ledger leaves, a rear wall extending upwardly from said platform for supporting the rear cover of said ledger in substantially upright position whereby said ledger leaves can rest against said rear cover, a front wall disposed forwardly of and in spaced relation with the forward end of said platform for supporting the front cover of said ledger in substantially upright position and in spaced relation with said sheets and said rear cover, a guide disposed longitudinally and in spaced relation on each side of said platform, said guide being hingedly mounted for movement into upward position to engage the side edges of said ledger leaves and of said ledger covers and maintain them in aligned relation with each other, said guides being movable downwardly below the top of said platform to permit manipulation of said ledger parts.

7. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform for supporting ledger leaves, an end wall extending upwardly adjacent to each end of said platform for supporting the ledger covers in spaced relation, and a horizontally disposed guide movably mounted adjacent to each side of said platform for engaging the side edges of said ledger leaves and maintaining them in aligned relation.

8. A rack for loose leaf ledgers comprising a raised platform for supporting ledger leaves, an end wall extending upwardly adjacent to each end of said platform for supporting the ledger covers in spaced relation, and a horizontally disposed guide movably mounted adjacent to each side of said platform for engaging the side edges of said ledger leaves and maintaining them in aligned relation, said guides being provided with seats for engaging the side edges of said covers and hold the latter against displacement.
