c. wv DEIBEL GAME DEVI CE Filed m 8, 1932 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Feb. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES CHRISTOPHER W. DEIBEL', OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO GAME DEVICE Application filed February 8, 1932.
This invention relates to games. The principal object of this device is to provide a game that is played by the use of a golf club upon an inclined playing board. A further object is to provide a device wherein a captive ball is held at one end of the inclined playing board and to which is attached an elastic cord.
A further object is to provide a plurality of inclosures on said inclined playing board.
A further object is to provide a propeller arm upon said inclined playing board and which is caused to move when the captive ball is struck by a golf club.
A still further object is to provide a means for preventing unauthorized playing of the board.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the device with part broken away.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device with parts broken away.
Figure 4 is a cross section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a detail view showing a ball magazine and parts connected thereto.
Figure 6 is a detail view showing a ball 40 control member.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that there is provided an inclined play ing board 1. This inclined playing board 1 is provided with a captive ball 2 which is preferably made of rubber and which is attached to an elastic cord 3.
By referring to Figures 1 and 2 it will be seen that an outer end 4 of the elastic cord 3 passes through a groove 5, this groove 5 forming a seat for the captive ball 2. In
Serial No. 591,573. 5"
playing the game a golf club is used and the player strikes the captive ball 2. It will be seen by referring to Figure 2 that the elastic cord 3 is secured to a manipulating arm 6 at a point 7. This manipulating arm 6 is pivoted by means of a pivot in 8 which carries a propeller arm 9. ee Fig. 1.) When the captive ball 2 is struck the propeller arm 9 is caused to move suddenly in a clockwise direction propelling a ball 10 which rests in front of a block support 11. The ball 10 is now bankedagainst an inner end. portion 12 and rolls down the inclined playing board 1 or becomes entrapped in any of inclosures 13 by rolling through an opening 1 1. In the event that the ball 10 is not entrapped within any of the inclosures 13 the same will come to a rest against a stop bar 15. It will also be seen that the inclined ,M playing board 1 is provided with side rails 16. In order to provide an added interest in playing the game if desired the inclosures 13 may be given varying par numbers according to the hazard as to the entrapping of the ball 10. In order to prevent unauthorized play of the game, if desired, a coin lock 17 may be installed provided with a coin slide 18. This coin slide 18 comes in contact with a depended spring arm 19 for the purpose of releasing the manipulating arm 6 which is caused to be pulled by means of the elastic cord3 over an incline 20 and be held back of a catch 21. :-v It will also be seen that the bottom of the inclined playing board 1 is provided with a channel 22 in order to insure freedom of movement of the elastic cord 3.
In order that the ball 10 or any predeter- I mined number of balls may be placed in position for playing I have provided a ball magazine 23 with an inclined bottom member 24. This ball magazine 23 is provided with an opening 25 for the purpose of receiving balls within the ball magazine. At one end of the ball magazine 23 there is provided a ball control member 26 which is pivoted by means ofa pivot pin 27 to an upper portion of the ball magazine 23 and is provided with two de '100 pended arms 28 and 29, the arm 28 being longer than the arm 29.
By referring to Figure 6 it will'be seen that the operator by pressing his club or foot upon a spring controlled tilt lever 30 will cause the ball control "member 26 to move in order to allow one ball at a time. to be fed into an opening 81 which'is above and in front of the block support 11 so that the ball 10 will roll down against the block sup port 11 in position for. playing. The spring controlled tilt lever 30 is normally held in a position so as to prevent balls from rolling into the opening 31 excepting when the same is depressed. Vhen the spring controlled tilt lever is depressed a spring arm 32 returns the spring controlled tilt lever 30 up to a normal position. I he ball control member 26 is secured to the spring controlled tilt lever 30 at a point 33.
V hat I claim is v for the purpose of propelling a ballwhen a violent jerk is exerted upon the elastic cord by striking the captive ball, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, an inclined playing board, a groove formed at an end of said inclined playing board, a captive ling balls so that one ball at a time may be allowed to roll into a position for playing.
4. In a device of the class described, an inclined playing board, a groove formed at an end of said inclined playing board, a captive ball normally seated in said groove, an elastic cord secured to said captive ball, a plurality of inclosures positioned on said inclined playing board, a manipulating arm, one end of said elastic cord secured to said manipulating arm, a pivot member, said manipulating arm secured to said pivot member, a propeller arm secured to said pivot member for the purpose of propelling a ball when a'violent jerk is exerted upon the elastic cord byj strikingthe captive ball, a-ball ,controlmember, means for actuating said ball control member in order to release a ball to be played.
In testimony whereoflI atfix mysignature.
