' My invention relates to a water heating attachment or equipment for installation particularly in steamboiler structures for the heating of water" in a water supply systein before reaching the points of co'nsump tion. An important object of the invention is to provide awater heating loop for installation in'a boiler structure in which water flowing therethrough is heated partially by the hot water or-steam-in the boiler and partiallydirectly b the heat or products of combustion in the fi i'e box for theboilerstructure. ';A further object is to provide an'arrangement' in which two of the'-'boiler tubes,'or tubessubstituted therefor are included in the water heating loop for exposure 'to the heat of the water or steam in the boiler, and a header connecting the front ends of these tubes and extending through the fire box for direct exposure to the fire and heat is alsoinclude'd'. The water heatingloop' comprises a head structure 22,;sideconductors 23 and-24 and the leads 25 and26 for connecting the loop serially the water-supply system usually extending from awwater main: to the different points ofhot'water consumption. My improved arrangement is such-thatthe side members or conductorsi23- and 24 extend through the boiler for-exposure tothe-water therein while the head'22 'iswithin the "fire box for direct exposure tothefire and heat therein; I may use two of'the-boiler flues for inclusion :in the water'heating loop but preferably I substitute other tubes for such inunieate withthe water jacket or legs 21 flues with the tubes, extending sufliciently' beyond the outer sides ofthe boiler tube sheets for "application thereto of suitable fittings for "securing thereto the head 22 and the leads 25 and 26. The'locationof the "tubes 23 and24= may be 'atdesire'd points in the boiler but a preferred construction is to utilize the spaces ordinarily occupied by the upper and side fiues'for the boiler. When a boileri's manufactured for use therein of my water heating attachment, the pipes 22 and 24 are inserted and secured. to the crown sheets in theordinarymanner, as forexample, by welding or brazing. Whenthe loop is to be installed in a boiler structure vnected with the other ends of-the' pipes which is already in use, two of'the flues are removed and the looppipes 23 and 24 substituted therefor and secured in place. The outer ends of the pipes are preferably threaded for'receiving suitable joint or cou pling members. I have shown a head 22 of substantially. U shape whose ends 27 v and .28

The header may be in the form of'a casting or may be. constructed of suitable sheet, metalparts welded or otherwise secured to gether. Instead of the speciallshaped head+ er, a length of pipe or a coil of piping could be extended between the ends. of thetubes 23 and .24 for directfexposure to the "heat inthe firebox. d Y
\5 Where the flues of a boiler are of comparatively large diameter, flues need not be removed for the installation of the hot water loop, but as shown in Figure 3 theside legs 33 of the loop could be extended through the desired flues. The pipes could also be of a length so that the joints or connection thereof with the leads and 26 would be outside of the furnace or'boiler structure walls. The
7 side pipes for the loops could then be inserted from the rear end ofrthe boiler structure through the desired fines and the-header 22 and the-leads then connected with the respective' ends-ofthe pipes. Where the header 22 is of extended-exposure surface for rapid heating directly by the fire, the
heated water in the loop may assist in heat- :ing theboiler water during periods when hot water is not being drawn-in great quantities 'fromthe hot water supply circuit. At other times the extendedheader 22 will maintain maxi mum thewater at the proper temperaturefor supply of hot water to the hot water circuit.

The combination with a boiler having fiues and a fire box communicating therewith, of a water heating coil comprising pipes extending through some of said boiler flues, a header connecting the front ends of said pipes and located entirely within the firebox to be exposed to the direct heat ofthe fire, said header comprising a relatively large flat hollow fluid container extending horizontally across the fire box adi acent the top thereof, the rear ends of said pipes being adapted for connection with a hot watersupply circuit for inclusion of said coil therein.
