Description
Jan, 10,1933. c. HERZOG BOTTLE WASHING DEVICE Filed June 12. 1931 INYENTOR Carl Hsrzug A ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 10, 1933 UNITED STATES CARL HERZOG, F IRVINGTON, NEW JERSEY BOTTLE WASHING DEVICE Application filed June 12,
This invention relates to bottle washing devices and more particularly to a device for domestic use in connection with the washing or rinsing of babies nursing bottles and other like containers.
One object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character described of very simple and cheap construction and adapted to deliver a vigorous jet of water in the bottle near its bottom which will wash or rinse the same thoroughly and quickly.
Another object is the provision of a simple, inexpensive device for home use having an elastic friction socket, which will fit any faucet and when attached will be held in position solely and securely by, and which may be easily attached to or detached from the faucet.
A still further object is to provide an inherently flexible device which may be bent or will readily adapt itself to any angle to accommodate the adjusting of bottles thereto for washing and removing same, whatever may be the position of the particular faucet in relation to the bottom or sides of the sink or basin.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing 5 any of the advantages thereof.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the center of the device;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View thereof; and,
Fig. 3 is a side view showing the device attached to a faucet and in course of being inserted into a bottle.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the device comprises a flexible body portion 2 having a water-faucet-engaging socket 3 and an integral flared hood or water-deflector 4 of annular form, the faucet connection socket 3 being restricted at its lower part and formed with 50 a seat 5. Integral radially disposed horizontal ridges or ribs 6 are formed on the top in- 1931. Serial No. 543,781.
ner wall of the deflector 4. A depending tubular stem 8 formed with an exte'riorbead!) at one end is passed through said body portion 2, being inserted through the socket 3 and drawn downward until the bead 9 rests upon the seat 5, in which position, owing to the elasticity of the material, preferably soft rubber, of which the device is made and to the restricted diameter of the passage, it is gripped and assumes practically an integral relationship with the socket deflector member 3-4:. The socket 3 and the deflector 4 may be formed with integral beads as shown at 10 and 11 respectively.
The use of the device will be obvious from "-i Fig. 3. The radial ribs 6 insure the space necessary between the mouth of an inserted bottle 7 and the interior top wall of the deflector i to permit water forced into the bottle near its bottom from stem 8 to escape 73 and in so doing to wash the exterior of the bottle. By moving the bottle 7 from side to side While washing it, the end of the stem 8 is carried over against the interior walls of the bottle and an effective swirling motion of the rinsing water will thereby result, thus very quickly and efficiently washing the bottle. If the faucet 12 to which the device is attached is inconveniently' near the bottom of the sink or basin, the flexible stem 8 may to be bent to as much as a right angle from the faucet for inserting same into the bottle to be washed, so that the bottles may be applied to or withdrawn from the device without the necessity of removing the device from the faucet.
Although the drawing and the above specification disclose the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my invention, I wish to be in no way limited to the so details of this disclosure, since, for the further practical application of my invention and for the adaptation thereof to various conditions changes in form may be made as circumstances require and experience sug- 1 gests, without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A bottle washer comprising a socket for attachment to a source of water supply, a water deflector integral with saidsocket, integral means in said deflector to space the mouth of a bottle therefrom, and a tubular flexible stem fastened in said socket, passing through and extending below said deflector and adapted to be inserted into a bottle and to deliver water near the bottom of a bottle to be washed.
2. A bottle Washer comprising av flexible body portion, an integral faucet-engaging socket and an integral water-deflecting hood on said body portion, a central opening and an integral annular seat. in said body portion, a flexible stem extending below the said hood, and an external heading on one end of the stem, the said beading engaging said seat and being held in compression thereon by the walls of the socket.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name. to this specification.
CARL HER-ZOG.
