Description

NOV. 29, 1932. KRUGER 1,889,147 METHOD AND MOLD FOR THE LOCAL STRENGTHENING OF THE SILVER COATING 0F GALVANICALLY SILVERED SPOONS AND FORKS Filed June 11, 1931 Patented Nov. 29, 1932 rear oFFi'cE Z-IERMANN KR llG-ER, OF KARLSRUI-IE, GERMANY METHOD AND MOLD FOR THE LOCAL STRENGTHENING OF THE SILVER COATING OF GALVANICALLY SILVERED SPOON S AND FORKS Application filed June 11, 1931, Serial No. 543,685, and in Germany September 14, 1928.
My invention has for its object a method and a mold for the local strengthening of the silver coating of galvanically si vered spoons and forksat the places where they rest on the face and are subjected to be mostly worn off, viz. at the bowl and the handle as well as at the points of the bowl.
According to my invention the silvering of the whole object and the strengthening of the silver coating at the places subjected mostly to the wear is executed in two separate methods of work. The covering mold used for strengthening of the silver coating is constructed according to my invention in such a manner, that the edges of the openings in the mold are elevated gradually from the object being within the mold and that the shape of said openings corresponds to that of the places to be strengthened of the piece of work.
The accompanying drawing shows my invention by way of example, in which Fig. 1 is a back view and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section.
The mold consists of a back part a and a front part b. It encloses the piece 0 to be treated, a spoon, and is provided at the places of the bowl or of the handle and of the point of the bowl where it rests on the face with O9 openings d. At the places behind the openings of the piece to be treated takes place the strengthening of the silver coating.
This strengthening is obtained according to my invention by a special method (gal whole piece of work. The edges of the openings (Z arranged in the mold are constructed in accordance with my invention (see Fig. 2 of the drawing) in such a manner, that they are elevated gradually from the piece of work 0. Thereby the strengthening of metal deposit towards the edges of the opening is gradually reduced and an imperceptible transition of the metal deposit into the face of the piece of work without any visible elevation is created. According to my invention and as shown in Fig. 1 the shape of the openings cZ corresponds to those of the places to be strengthened of the piece of Work.
vanization) before or after silvering the- The opening behind the bowl of the spoon to be treated is nearly half-moon shaped. Owing to this formation the metal deposit is limited to the face to be really necessary strengthened, also a consumption of metal as small as possible is obtained. The strengthening of the silver coating in a special method allows a proper distribution of the strengthening deposit and enables to strengthen the worn places of spoons and forks already used.
V1 hat I claim is:
A mold for locally strengthening the silver coating of an article such as a spoon or the like and comprising a mold having back and front portions to receive the article between them, one of said portions having an opening to expose the article at the point where the same is to be reinforced, the edge wall of said opening being so shaped as to recede gradually from the exposed local surface of the article to cause the edges of a strengthening deposit applied through said opening to be radually reduced and to merge imperceptibly into the face of the work article.
In testimony whereof I aihx my signature.
