This invention relates to a swimming appliance of the kind comprising a glove to which a thrust plate is connected in a laterally extending position so as to enable the swimmer to obtain a better hold on the water.
In a known device of this kind the thrust plate is connected pivotally to the glove so that it can collapse on the hand being moved in the direction of the top surface thereof.

The glove a is provided with open-ended, webbed finger portions and is secured to the hand by means of a wrist strap 6. Connected to the palm of the glove is a thrust plate 7 which is maintained in a slightly downturned position relative to the palm, as indicated in Fig. 2. By this arrangement the thrust plate not only forms an additional bearing surface, but it also guides the water towards the hand so as to offer greater resistance to the latter.
The thrust plate is connected to the glove either direct or through the medium of a separate fastening strip 0. In the latter instance the strip 6 and plate f may be formed with upturned flanges e and f respectively which may be riveted together. The angle 71,
between the plate f and strip 6, which is less than 180, may be controlled by means of a wedge-shaped packing piece 9 inserted between the two flanges.
I claim:
1. A swimming appliance of the character described comprising a glove, and a thrust plate connected immovably to one side of said glove in a laterally extending position and maintained at an angle less than 180 to the palm of the hand.
2. A swimming appliance of the character described, comprising a glove, a metal strip connected to the palm of said glove and formed at one side of the glove with an upturned flange, and a thrust plate having a flange whereby it is connected to the flange of the strip and maintained at an angle less than 180 to the latter.
3. The swimming appliance claimed in claim 2 in combination with a wedge-shaped packing piece inserted between-the flanges for fixing the angle between the plate and the strip.
