7 This invention. relates to a holderfor flexible phonograph disc records and has for its object the rovision of means for supporting and stifi'ening the records whereby they may be more readily handled and preserved, and also adapted for use in automatic recordchanging phono raphs.
One feature of the invention resides in the provision of an eyelet or mounting extendin through the center hole of the record and eit er permanently or removably clamped thereto for providing means whereby the record may be manipulated in an automatic record-changing phonograph structure through the medium of the mechanism adapted to engage the center hole of the record for supporting or transferring it. It is desirable, although not essential, that, when clamped to the record, this eyelet or center hole support should be of substantially the same thickness as the usual rigid type of disc record.
7 Another feature of the invention resides in a bottom plate associated with the eyelet or center support for supporting the entire undersurface oi the flexible record to maintain it in flattened position through the medium of the clamping action of the eyelet or center support. By means of this arrangement, the record may be preserved and more conveniently handled, particularly in automatic record-changing phonograph mechanisms wherein the record is manipulated by engagement or contact with the rigid peripheral edge thereof.
A still further feature of the invention resides in means positioned about the periphcry of the bottom supporting plate for clamping the edges of the record and hoding it in flattened position relative thereto, whereby the peripheral edge of the flexible record will be held firmly in flattened position and provide a rigid operative edge for engagement and manipulation by recordchanging mechanism.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims! Fig. 1 is a central vertical section showing a flexible record secured in position on the holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a modification of a central vertical section through a portion of a record showing an eyelet independently mounted in the center hole thereof. Fig. 4 is a central vertical section through a portion of the record holder showin a modified form of 'centerihole support. Fig.5 is the :saane'as'Fig'. Q showing a modified form thereof. Fig. 6 is the same as Fig. 1 showing said modified form.
In the drawings there is shown a flexible disc record 10 having a center hole formed therein as indicated at 11. For supporting said record, there is a rigid bottom supporting plate 12 provided at its center with an up-standing collar 13 of substantially the same size diameter as the center hole 11. Said collar is formed of thin metal so that when the record 10 is mounted on the plate 12 and the collar forced through the center hole of the record, it will not materially decrease the diameter thereof. The upper portionof the collar is split to provide a plurality of cars 14 which may be bent down over the top surface of the record for permanently clamping the record in position on 1 the holder. Said collar and ears are so formed that when bent into clamping position, the overall thickness through the center hole thereby provided is substantially the same as that of the usual type of rigid disc record. About the periphery of the plate 12 there are provided a plurality or" lugs 15 adapted to be likewise bent over on top of the record and forced into position for securing the edges of the plate but having an overall thickness not materiallv greater than the thickness of the usual rigid disc record.
As illustrated in the modification of Fig. 3, the eyelet or center hole support is formed substantially as above described with a base portion 112 embracing the bottom of the record'only adjacent the center hole 11 which does not extend to the periphery of the rec- 0rd, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The eyelet is further provided with the up-standing collar 113 and ears 114: as above described through engagement with the center hole thereof irrespective of a supporting plate.
In Fig. 4 the supporting plate 212 is formed with an up-standing collar 213 provided with a peripheral groove 214 in which is mounted the clamping spring ring 215. By means of this -arrangement, the record may be rcmovably clamped in position upon the support.
As illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the upstanding collar 313 of the support 12 is provided with external screw threads to permit the clamping nut 314 to be removably secured thereto inrecord-clamping position. The supporting plate 12 is provided with opositely-positioned, inwardly-extending peripheral flanges 115 adapted to permit the flexible record 10 to be inserted thereunder and thereafter clamped centrally the nut 314 or the like.
By means of the above arrangements a flexible record may be preserved and supported for convenient handling as well as adapted for use in an automatic recordchanging phonograph.
The invention claimed is:
1. The combination with a thin flexible disc phonograph record. having a central opening therein, of a removable support for adapting the same to manipulation in an automatic record changing phonograph comprising a rigid bottom plate extending throughout the entire surface of one side of the record, and a member centrally positioned of said plate and extending through the opening in the record adapted to engage the upper surface thereof surrounding said opening and removably clamp said record centrally to said plate.
2. The combination with a thin flexible disc phonograph record having a central opening therein, of a support for adapting the same to manipulation in an automatic reco d changing phonograph comprising a rigid bottom plate extending throughout the entire surface of one side of therecord, a member centrally positioned of said plate and extending through the opening in the record adapted to engage the upper surface thereof surrounding said opening and clamp said record centrally to said plate, and means extending from the periphery of said sup porting plate for engaging the peripheral edge of the said record and securing it in position thereof.
3. The combination with a thin flexible disc phonograph record having a central opening therein, of a removable support for' adapting the same to manipulation in an automatic record changing phonograph comprising a rigid bottom plate extending throughout substantially the entire surface of one side ofthe record, and means on said plate for removably clamping said record thereto.
4. The combination with a thin flexible disc phonograph record having a central opening therein, of a support for adapting the same to manipulation in an automatic record changing phonogra h comprising a rigid bottom plate exten 'ng throughout su stantially the entire surface of one side of the record, means on said plate for securing said record thereto, and means mounted about the periphery of said plate for engaging and securing the peripheral edge of said record thereto.
5. The combination with a thin flexible disc phonograph record having a central opening therein, of a support for adapting the same to manipulation in an automatic record'changing phonograph comprising a rigid bottom plate extending throughout
