The present invention relates to brackets and more particularly to brackets adapted to hold containers filled with fire extinguishing fluid.
An object of this invention is to provide a bracket of this character which is adapted to hold a container filled with fire extinguishing fluid and which will release the container at a predetermined temperature.
1 Another object of this invention is to provide a device of thischaracter which is simple in construction and may be readily mounted in any convenient location and particularly in locationswhere fire is more apt to occur.
A further object of this invention is to provide a resilient bracket which is under tension at all times and which, when sub-- jected to a predetermined temperature, will 9 release the container.
The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein Figure 1 is a detail side elevation of a device constructed according to the pre- 0 ferred embodiment of this invention;

R ferring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate correspondingparts throughout theseveral views, the numeral 10 designates a supporting base which is adapted to be mounted on a wall or other upright or vertical member by means of screw or bolt members 11 or the like. The base of securing member 10 is provided at the opposite edge portions thereof with a pair of substantially tubular members 12 which are adapted to hold a pair of bracket 0 members generally designated as 18., The
bracket-members 1 3 are constructed of resilient material and'are provided at themner end thereof with downwardly extendingor depending holding members 14 which are adapted to loosely'engagein the tubular members 12 of the base.
A pair of outstanding arcuately inclined arms 15 are secured to the upper end portion of the supporting members 14 and are provided at the outer end portion thereof 66- with reverted arms or lug members 16.'
. A- container retaining member17 of substantially elliptical construction is adapted to be mounted on the outer end portions "of the resilient arms 15. The member 17 is 05: provided at one end thereof with an opening 18 for receivingone of the-lugv members 16, and at the opposite end thereof is pro-- vided with an apertured eye member 19 which is adapted to'be secured to the supporting member 17 in any suitable manner but in the preferred embodiment of this invention, the arm holding member 19 is preferably soldered to the supporting member 17 with a metalrwhich has a low melting temperature so that when the retainingmember. 17 is subjectedtoexcessive heat, the solder will melt thus releasing one end of the retaining member 17 and permitting the container 20 which is. mounted on the retainso ing member 17 to be dropped so as to expel the fire extinguishing liquid therein.
The retaining member 17 is preferably provided with a circular opening 21 therein for removably receiving one end of the liquid 35 container 20 which is substantially spherical in construction. The retaining member 17 is also provided with openings 22 spaced out wardly from the opening 21 which are adapted to simulate the configuration ofvan eye so as to represent an ever watchful fire extinguishing member. The retaining member 17 is preferably bent or pressed so as to form a substantially concave supporting member which is adapted to closely follow the configuration of the container 20. The container2O is adapted to be mounted on the bracket member 13 at a slightly inclined angle and is adapted at'the inner end thereof to engage against thewall andis adapted upon being mu forced downwardly to place the resilient arm members 15 under tension, being somewhat larger than the arms 15 so as to permit the container to be pressed downwardly slightly whereby to force the retainingmember 17 outwardly and thereby place the arms 15 under tension. 7
By placing the arms 15 under tension, when the solder or holding means 23 for holding the eye member 19 on one end of the retaining member 17, is subjected to increased temperature sufficient to melt the solder, the
retaining member 17 will be sprung or snapped outwardly thereby permitting the container 20 to drop and explode or break so as to expel the liquid therefrom. It is, of course, understood that the container 20 is preferably constructed of glass or some other similar breakable material which will break upon being dropped.
It will, of course, rious changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modificas tions being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.
What is claimed is i 1. Abracket for supporting a frangible fire extinguishing grenade comprising a base member adapted to be secured to a plane surface, lateral resilient arms movably carried by said'base normally incapable of supportingsaid grenade, a retaining socket member, having an aperture, one of said arms engaging in said aperture, releasable securing means carried by said retaining member for releasably holding the other of said arms on said retaining member, said releasable means being releasable in response to fire conditions, said retaining means and arms being so proportioned with respect to the grenade that upon insertion of the grenade between'said base and said retainingv member, with the bracket in position secured to said plane surface, tension is applied to said arms and said grenade is held in wedged position between said plane surface and said retaining member. o i
