ticularly for cooked meats, used on machines i6 place between the interlocking members, due
to the vibration caused by the operation of the machine;
(Qne object ofthe present invention is to obviatethisdisadvantagebyproviding means meat table and another object of the invention is to provide-improvedmeans for clamping the substance to be sliced in position on thetray. r
To the attainment of the aforesaid objects, aceordingt'othe present invention, 1* provide a" display tray of a slicing machine which can be locked to the substance-carrying table by 'co a'ct-ing movable means and stationary means in such manner that the tray, whenlocked in position", cannotbe removed from ofi'ithe machine until and unless said movable means isoperated; I
1 said movable means may consist of a turnable member, or members, adapted to eo-act with afixedmember, or members. Thus, for example, a cam member, or members, pivoted to the display tray may be'adapted to co-act with one, or more fixed abutments on said table.
bnacltet, being adapted to co -act with the col- 5 umn; to secure it in its. adjusted positions.
for positively locking the display tray to-the easy and quick removal from the trayasde *Thecrampfor fastening the substance on Means may be provided whereby increased pressure can be applied to the, substance by the cramp afterthe latter hasjbeeiiiinifially adjusted into contact with the substance, sa 1 means, in one form, consisting'of a lever pivoted to the cramp supportjingarm andtormedl with an arc'uate slot, in whi'gihja pin secured to an arm of, the cramp is engaged. Means. may also bejprovidedfor use wlien subst eels} of differentshapes and diiielentwidthsfiilfl to; be arranged on the displaytraypsaijd, means, preferably consisting of side" memterapr plates "removably arranged on they tray-and, if desired, combined withj nean sjforf G5 scribed hereafter, Two constructional embodiments of in vention applied to meat slicing maehinesiare illustrated, by way of example, on the anp neXed r w sswh e nk i .70 4s. a on vation Qfa display, fixed in position on the usuallmeat tablepf a l in m chin i 2 is a Pl vi w lc re psn ins is Fig- 1;, r
' Fig, 3 is a fragmenta end eleyation, pa t ee c rr spond ngtto F ge F is me ta y w. s owing haw removable side plate is used in combination with thedisplay trfly when, meatsofroundi section are to. be arranged thereon; Fig. 5 is, a fragmentary view of modified adjustinguneansfor the meat cramp; and v Fig. 6 is an end elevation corresponding to Fig. 5'. 1 I Referring to-Figs. 1', to 8: y 7
The di pla-ytray comprise a base-p nticn 1; having ,anqupturn'ed side 2 provided',ja1i, one side, with a turnedmvenpart ,3: which is; adapted to serve: as a, handle when remov ing or replacing the display tray, Ahracketr 4: issecured toithe side 2 and comprisesitwoi hooked parts 5 and 6, abossz7, and: a'bossS: at one of its extremities. The boss 8 istormed' with a. projectingv h1g9 which is split 2111,10, Jo a cam 11, provided with a handle, 12, being arranged: between the two parts ot thelng e and rotatably mounted on a' pin 13 passing through an aperture in one of said parts-and screwed into the other part. lever 14',
formed at one end with a cam 15, is pivoted to the bracket 4 by means of a pin 16 screwed into the boss 7, said cam being adapted to coact with an upright 17 fixed into the meat table, 18, so as to secure the display tray firmmanner that if the display tray is arranged l carelesslyin position with its hooks 5 and 6 engaging said uprights, the operation of the lever 14 will have the effect of pulling the display tray into its proper position and positively locking it therein.
' The boss 8 is bored at 20 so as to accommodate a vertical columnor support 21, which is slidable therein and. is attached at its upper end to a substantially horizontal arm 22 adapted to carry a meat cramp as described hereafter. The column 21 is formed with a longitudinal groove 23 in which the cam 11 is engaged for the purpose of preventing rotation'of said column and for fixing the latter in its adjusted positions when the handle 12 is turned in such a direction that the cam bears hard against the bottom of the groove 23. f The arm 22 is formed witha downwardly depending apertured lug 25 wherein Y anarm 26 on a T-shaped meat cramp 27,
formed with corrugations 28, is slidably arranged, said arm being adaptedv to be secured in its adjusted positions by means of a pin 29 screwed into the arm and having a head 30. formed with a shoulder'adapted to bear against the face 25 of said lug.
The display tray, as shown in plan in Fig. 2, is adapted to be used for meat having a fiat surface and in order to adapt the tray for use in supporting circular pieces of meat, for example, we provide a removable side plate 31 shown in position in Fig. 4, said plate being removably secured to the side 2 of the display tray by means of screws 32 passing through key-hole slots, whereby the position of the plate 31 can be adjusted. It will be understood that said plate can be made of various shapes for use with meats of different sections. Y r
In order to provide for meats of different widths, the base 1 of the display tray is formed with a' number of key- hole slots 33, 34 and 35, which are adapted to be engaged by the -T-head 36 of a bolt 37 slidable in an aperture 38 formed ina side plate 39 similar to'the plate 31. The upper end of the'bolt 37 screwsinto a nut member 40 which, in turn is screwed into a threaded aperture 41 in the side plate 39,.a handle 42 being secured to the member 40. The nut member is screwed to the opposite hand fromv the bolt 37 so that the effect of turning the handle 42 in a direction to cause the nut member to move downwards is. to cause the T-headed bolt also to movedownwards and vice versa. The
plate 39 can be variously shaped to '15 side plate '39 is applied to the display tray with the T-head engaging in oneor other of the key- hole slots 33, 34, or 35, when by turning the handle 42 in the required direction the base 1 of thedisplay tray is firmly and quickly. gripped between the top of the T- head36 and the under'sideof theside-plate. As in the case of the side-plate 31, the sideferent shaped pieces of meat) l r A modified device for fixing theimeat cramp 27 in adjusted positions and for applying additional pressure to the meat after 7 the cramp has been initially adjustedtinto contact with the meat is illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, wherein the arm 22 Will beseen tobe slotted at 43' at its front end whilea lever 44, provided with a handle 45,ispivotally mount: ed on a pin 45 in the slot. ;The upper end of the arm 26 is also slotted and the lever 44 engages in said slot and is securedtherein by means of a pin 46 fixed in the bifurcated part of the arm 26 and engaging in an arcuate aperture 47 in said lever. The meat cramp is shown in its lowest position in Fig.
5 and it will be obvious that by turning the handle 45 to the left the bar 26 and meat cramp will be raised, while by turning said handle in the opposite direction the meat cramp will be lowered. The engagement of. the pin 46 in the aperture 47 allows increased; pressure to be applied to the meat by turn ing the handle still further to the right after the meat cramp has once come intocontact with the top of the meat. Y
