Description

Sept. 6, 1.932. A. w. GIVENS ENLARGED WEARING SURFACE FOR SPIKE HEELS Filed June .30, 1931 gwuwntoz Jllberf W. Givens %11 3Q. MWL,
Patented Sept. 6, 1932 UNITED- STATES,
ALBERT W. GIVENS, OF MARLBOROUGH,NEW YORK ENLARGED WEARING SURFACE FOR SPIKE EEELS Application filed June 30,
This invention relates to an article of manufacture in the form of an auxiliary heelfor shoes of that kind which may be quickly and easily attached in a temporary manner to the spike heels of ladies shoes for the purpose of providing a large wearing surface for use on golf courses to prevent damage to the same by the holes which are now made by the spike heels, and thus obviate the necessity of the players having to change their shoes,
The object of the invention is to provide not only a device of this kind but an advertising medium, as the outer surface of the article may be utilized to display an advertisement,
which will also help defray the cost of the article so that they may be given away by the owners of the miniature golf course.
Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the article will fit nearly all sizes of spike heels.
A further object being to provide means whereby the article is reinforced to prevent the end of the spike heel from puncturing through the bottom, and also to stiffen the wearing portion of thearticle.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part thereof and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views.
In the drawing Figure 1 shows the article as attached to the spike heel of a ladies shoe.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same taken on the line AA of Figure 3.
Figure 8 is a top plan view, taken on the line BB of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing The article comprises an auxiliary heel 10 formed of resilient material such as sponge rubber or other suitable material, and having the ta red sides 11 and the large wearing bottom surface 12; the body being formed with a central hole of slightly smaller diameter than the cross sectional size of the spike heel.
This hole 13 being for the reception of the 1931. Serial No. 547,857.}
heel 16 of the shoe, which it will grip upon all sides due to its resilient qualities and be firmly retained upon the heel, and yet be quickly put on or removed therefrom.
To add stifi'ness'to the wearing surface or bottom and also to prevent the spike heel from wearing through the bottom 14, the article isprovided with a wear plate 15 which is of suitable material such as wood, fiber, metal,
etc., and which is'in incorporated into the manufacture of the article. a
It is understood that the article may be of any desired size and shape and of any suitable material, the idea being to convert a spike heel into a large fiat heel, such as those on sport shoes, and that the sides of the article may be used to display advertising matter in the form of printing, etc.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A detachable enlarged wearing surface for spike heels, comprising a circular tread member integral with a conical'heel embracing
