My present invention relates to type casting machines and has for its object to provide such a machine with a spouting system for collecting shavings, waste metal, discarded slugs or type bars and the like from the ma- 'untidy'appearance and adds materially to the work in cleaning the same. wise. large amount of dirt, dust, refuse, moisture and the like is collected therewith and is highly objectionable for the reason that it fills the melting pot with a foreign substance 1 that must be removed; If there is moisture in the waste material at the time the same is poured into a melting pot, it is possible an explosion will occur with sufficient force to throw part of the molten metal from the pot which may be disastrous.
By embodying my spouting system ina type casting machine, the shavings and waste metal therefrom are collected without waste and conveyed, as they are produced during the operation of the machine, to a waste receptacle where they are kept clean and free from moisture, dirt and other foreign materiaI. This waste recept-acleis preferably, but not necessarily, supported from the frame of the machine above the floor so that the floor 55 may be swept thereunder. Furthermore, the waste receptacle is removably supported so that the waste material therein may be carried to a storage receptacle or a melting pot and poured therein. 7 60 To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in. the claims.

Of the parts of the type casting ma: chine illustrated, it is important to note the main frame 5-, mold disk 6, journaled to a slide 7 on said main frame, mold disk driving pinion 8, mold pockets 9 in the mold disk 6, molds 10 in said pockets, rear trimming knife 11 mounted on the slide 7 for trimming the bottoms of slugs X in the molds 10 under the rotation of the mold disk 6, starting lever bracket 12 on the main frame 5, starting lever 13 pivoted tosaid bracket, justification lever 14 on the main frame 5, which extends transversely of the mold disk 6 and spaced therebelow, vise frame 15 pivoted at 16 to the main frame 5 for outward swinging movement, vise frame lock 17, front trimming knives 18. carried'by apart on the vise frame 15, wiper 19 for said trimming knives, galley 20 and slug rack 21 mounted on the vise frame 15.
Referring now in detail to the invention, to wit: the spouting system, the numeral 22 indicates an open top scoop-like receptacle having on its front end a handle 23. This receptacle 22 is removably mounted by a sliding movement on the horizontal arm of an L-shap ed bracket 2 in the form of a flat plate. This bracket 24 is held suspended from the main frame 5 to which the upper end of its vertical arm is rigidly secured. ' An upright slug chute 26 is rigidly secured to the vise frame 15 above the receptacle 22 The open top of the chute 26 is closely associated with the slug rack 21 and discarded slugs dropped therein are di ected thereby into the receptacle 22. The slug chute 26 is rigidly secured to the vise frame 15 for common movement therewith and in all of its positrons, said chute is held with lbS lower end arranged to discharge into the receptacle 22. All shavings cut from the sides of the slugs a X during their ejection fromthe molds 10 by the front trimming knives 18 durin their ejection from the molds 10 and all shavings adhering to the trimming knives 18 are removed therefrom by the wiper 19 and precipitated into a segmental trough or open spout 27 which extends circumferentially under the mold disk 6 from the right side thereof. This trough 27 extends transversely under the mold disk 6 to receive the shavings that fall directly from the fronttrimming knives 18 as well as those removed therefrom by the wiper 19 and shavings from the trimming knives that are caught or held on the mold disk 6. While the rear side of the trough 27 is relatively high the front side thereof is relatively low to 'permit'the required axial movementof the mold disk 6. This trough27 in addition to collecting the shavings from the trimming knives also catches waste metal from the molds 10. The trough 27 is downwardly inclined and all shavings and waste metal precipitated thereon are conveyed by gravity to the lower end thereof where the same are directed onto a short secondary trough or open spout 28 rigidly secured to the main frameo and arranged to discharge into the receptacle 22 rearward of the slug spout 26. The trough 27 extends between the mold disk 6 and justification lever 14 and its righthand end is pivoted at 29 to the bracket 12 for a limited vertical movement. Normally the trough 27 rests on the bracket 12 and is held thereby with freedom for a limited lifting movement in respect to the mold disk 6.
Normally the justification lever 14 does not engage the trough 27 except during extreme movement thereof when casting a so-called loose line and at which time said lever engages the trough 27 and carries the same upward therewith.
Shavingsan d waste metal from the rear trimming knife 11 are collected and carried to the secondary trough 28 by a trough or open spout 29 comprising an upper section 30 and a lower section 31. The upper trough section 30 extends rearward from the mold disk 6 and is rigidly secured to the rear trimming knife 11 for movement therewith during the axial movement of said disk. The lower trough section 31 is arranged to receive from the upper trough section 30 and extends forward under the mold disk 6 and is rigidly secured to the main frame 5.
Formed with the upper edge of the rear side of the secondary trough 28 is an inclined apron 32 which directs the shavings and waste metal from the trough section 31 into said secondary trough and from there said materials are carried into the receptacle 22.
During the axial adjustment of the mold disk- 6 the up'perspout section 30 is always held to discharge into the lower trough section 31 and the materials from the rear trimming knife llare carried by gravity over the trough secg tions 30 and 31,apron 32 and secondary trough 28 to the receptacle 22.
The above described spouting system will collect all shavings and waste metal from the type casting machine and cause the same to be conveyed by gravity to a receptacle without interfering with the action of the machine and permit the required movements of its mold disk 6 and vise frame 15. By means of this spouting system all shavings and waste metal are kept off the floor so that the same may be easily kept clean and if a matrix or space band is dropped the same may be easily found. The receptacle may be removed from the machine from time to time and the metal therein poured into a storage compartment or melting pot.
It will be understood that the invention described is capable of various modifications Within the scope of the invention herein disclosed and claimed.
WVhat I claim is:
1. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk and front trimming knives, of a waste receptacle, and a trough constructed and arranged to extend under the mold disk to receive shavings precipitated from the mold disk and front trimming knives and discharge the same into the waste receptacle.
2. In a type casting machine, the combination with a frame, mold disk and front trimming knives, of a waste receptacle, a support onthe frame for the waste receptacle, and a trough constructed and arranged to extend under the mold disk to receive shavings precipitated from the mold disk and front trimming knives and discharge the same into the waste receptacle.
3. The structure defined in claim 2 in which the support holds the waste receptacle in a raised position.
4. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk, front trimming knives and a justification lever, the latter of which extends under the mold disk, of a waste receptacle, and a trough constructed and ar ranged to extend under the mold disk and over the justification lever to receive shavings precipitated from the mold disk and front trimming knives and discharge the same into the waste receptacle, said trough being mounted to move with the justification lever during certain operations thereof.
5. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk, front trimming knives and a justification lever, the latter of which extends under the mold disk, of a waste receptacle, and a trough extending cir cumfcrentially under the mold disk above the justification lever and constructed and arranged to discharge into the waste receptacle, said lever being pivoted for rais ng and lowering movements in respect to the mold disk and normally held out of contact with said trough but free to be lifted by the justification lever under extreme movements thereof.
6. In a type casting machine, the combination with a movable vise frame, and a slug rack carried by said frame, of a waste recep tacle, and a spout carried by the vise frame for movement therewith and constructed and arranged to discharge into the waste receptacle in all positions of the vise frame and having an open top closely associated with the slug rack.
7. In a type casting machine, the combination with a movable vise frame, of a waste receptacle, and an upright open top spout carried by the vise frame for movement therewith and constructed and arranged to dis-- charge into the waste receptacle in all positions of the vise frame.
8. In a type casting machine, the combination with a main frame, and a movable vise frame, of a waste receptacle, a support on the main frame for the waste receptacle, and a spout carried by the vise frame for movement therewith and constructed and arranged to discharge into the waste receptacle in all positions of the vise frame.
9. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk, front trimming knives and a rear trimming knife, of a waste receptacle, and a trough constructed and arranged to extend under the mold disk to receive shavings precipitated from the mold disk and front trimming knives, a second trough constructed and arranged to receive shavings precipitated from the rear trimming knife, and a secondary trough into which shavings are discharged from the first two noted troughs and discharge the same into the waste receptacle.
10. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk and a rear trimming knife, of a waste receptacle, and a trough constructed and arranged to receive shavings from the rear trimming knife and cause the same to travel in a circuitous course and discharge into the waste receptacle.
11. In a type casting machine, the combination with a mold disk and a rear trimming knife, of a waste receptacle, and a trough comprising upper and lower sections arranged to first convey the shavings rearward from the mold disk and then forward to the waste receptacle.
12. In a type casting machine, the combi-' nation with a mold disk and a rear trimming knife, of a waste receptacle forward of the mold disk, and a trough comprising upper and lower sections constructed and arranged to receive shavings from the reartrimming knife, convey the same rearward from the mold disk and then forward under the mold disk and discharge the same into the waste receptacle.
13. In a type casting machine, the combination with a main frame, a movable vise frame, a mold disk, front trimming knives and a back trimming knife, of a Waste metal receptacle, a support on the main frame for the receptacle, a fixed spout carried by the vise frame for movement therewith and constructed and arranged to discharge into the receptacle, a front trough extending under the mold disk and constructed and arranged to receive shavings precipitated from the mold disk, and front trimming knives, a rear trough constructed and arranged to receive shavings from the rear trimming knife, and a secondary trough into which shavings are discharged from the first two noted troughs and discharge the same into the waste receptacle.
