Description

QUICK DETACHABLE TOP LIFT FOR HEELS Filed Aug. 14. 1931 .5 A'ITORNEY Patented Sept. 6, 1932 L. BROWN, F ennnnvrmn, onro was DETACfiABLE 'ror 'rlrr'r ronnnE Ls I Application mama 14, 19311 seria 11f i.f.557,017.
This invention relates to improvements in quick detachable top'lifts for heels.
It is one of the principal objects of my invention to provide simple and convenient means for quickly detaching a top lift from a shoe'heel and replacing 'it with another.
This quick 'method' of changing top lifts will prolong the life'of the shoe to "which it is applied, 'by keeping it in betterjcondition 1|.) 'through frequent renewal lifts :p
the heels. I I Because it encourages frequent changes' 'of the top-'lift',the method is. also an aid to'correct foot posture by keeping the shoes nearer 16 their original sha e at'alltimes. I
It is another ob ect of my invention to provide a metal plate which covers all of the, area of the surface of the heel adj acent'to the top lift, thus keeping that surface in good condi- 2 tion for the attachment of a new top lift. 7 Another object of my invention is the provision within the' top lift of apin which is removable to make .the removal of the'top lift an almost instant operation.- 1
Other important and incidental objects will be brought out in the following specification and particularly set forth in the subjoined claims.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe heel having my quick detachable top lift applied thereto. Figure 2 is a sectional view through a shoe heel equipped with my detachable top lift. Figure 3 is a perspective view of the attaching mechanism applied to the top lift. Figure 4 is a perspective view of the lock plate attached to the heel immediately above the top lift. Figure 5 is a bottom view of a shoe heel, showing the top lift being applied. And Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Figure 2, showing the locking fingers and locking P111.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing for a complete description of my invention, the numeral 1 indicates a conventional shoe heel from which a top lift 2 is separate. (See Figures 1 and 2.)
Secured to the lower face 3 of the heel 50 as shown at Figure 4, is a metal plate 4 hav- -'-ingithesa mepprofile as the face 3 and at tached'thereto' by nails 5. This plate 4 covers 'au'ier the area of the surface of the heeladjacent to the top lift, thus keeping that surface in ''good condition for, the at- B8 taehmjent of a newtoplift.
" Projecting downwardly 'from'the plate 4, and oppositely disposed on its longitudinal center line; are tWWIOcking'fingers 6-6.
:These fingers 66 are [inclined downwardly "from the plate '4 and then upwardly to form abrupt shoulders 7. gBe'yond the shoulders 7 the free endsj8'of the fingers66 are again fin'clined downwardly.
Between the .fingers 66 and adjacent '65 their inner ends are two clamp receiving holes"9-9',- while at the front ofthe heel,
the plate 4 and heel 1 are provided with a rectangular slot 10. (See Figures 2, 4 and 6.)
Referring'jto' Figure 3,'I have shown the locking mechanism applied to the inner face of thetoplift- 2, and comprising a metal plate '11 secured to the top face of the top lift 2 by nails 12. The plate 11 has a central circular depression 13 that is received by a like" depression 14 in the top lift.
Formed perpendicularly from the face of the depression 13 are two opposite clamps 15 whose outer free ends 16 are formed at right angles with their inner ends. so
Also punched from the bottom of the depression 13, and oppositely disposed on its longitudinal center line, are two clearance holes 17-17.
Formed in the face of the plate 11 on oppo- '85 site sides of the depression 13 and in alinement with the holes 17-17 are two tunnel lugs 1818 to receive between them and the outer face of the plate 11, a locking pin 19. (See Figure 3.)
The pin 19 is of triangular cross section as shown in-Figure 6 and has at its forward end an angular head portion 20.
The plate 11 as attached to the top lift 2 is covered with a thin piece of leather 21 '95 having a central aperture 22 to clear the depression 13. (See Figures 3 and 6.)
Now, when it is desired to place a new top lift on a heel equipped with the plate 4, the top lift, as shown-at Figure 3 is placed necessaiy to withdraw; the pin f1 over the heel plate 4 as shown by the dotted outline of the top lift at Figure 5. When in this position the free ends 16 of the clamps 15 will enter the holes 99 and the locking pin 19 will be adjacent the free ends 8 of the locking fingers 6-6, the pin 19 being slightly .withdrawnias shown/at: Figure 3,
Asxthet'op lift is rotated; to itsi lprop'er position in alinement with the heel 1, the pin 19 will be engaged by the shdulders 8 of the locking fingers"6 6i:and.fthe clainps 1515 will enter the holes 99 to rightly draw the top lift against the 1 As a final operation the head portion of the pin 19 is forced ihto' the"recess10.
