My invention relates to bead forming devices and refers particularly to devices adapted for forming beads upon the open ends of rubber articles such as balloons, finger cots and similar devices.
Rubber articles of the character mentioned 1 are generally produced by depositing a thin film of rubber upon a form, usually of glass, of the general shape of the desired article, forming a head around the open end of the device by rolling the lower edge thereof while the unvulcanized article is upon the form, vulcanizing and then removing the article from the form.

iiecause of the thinness and sticky nature of the material and because of its liability to be torn, great difiiculty has been experienced in avoiding the production of useless and imperfect devices.
The most satisfactory results are obtained by producing the articles upon revoluble forms and then submitting these revolving forms to the action of aninclined revolving brush adapted to gradually and uniformly roll the edge to form a bead.
It is evident that a proper relationship of revolution between the forms and the brushes must be obtained in order that the head will not be formed too rapidly or too slowly and that this relationship must be maintained without change or interruption.
In the application of this process of bead forming, the revolving brushes are inclined with respect to a table, and the revolving forms are passed across the table in proper abutment with the brushes. There is, therefore, a revoluble and a horizontal movement of the forms against the brushes of therevolving inclined brushes. Hence it is necessary that these three movements be in proper synchronization with each other in order to produce a uniform bead.
Assumln'g the revolution of the brush to be uniform, it is evident'thatif the horizontal movement or the revolution of a form he decreased from normal movement orspeed of d revolution, the brush will actfor a longer period of time upon one spot of the device thus causing an accumulation of rubher at that point, forming a knot and the beadwill not be uniform. Upon the other hand, if" the horizontal movement or the revolution of a form he increased from normal movement or speed of revolution the brush will act for a shorter period of time upon one spot of the device thus causing a deficiency of rubber at that point and producing a uniform bead.
The object of my invention isa device which will overcome the above mentioned and other objectionable features of the present known device, and which will pro duce a uniform bead upon rubber articles of the character described.

Experience has shown that this can be accomplished by passing the revoluble forms across the face of a revolving brush, the latter being inclined with respect to the axis of a form to contact with the form from tl e lowest position of the rubber thereon to the height necessary for the production of a proper bead;
The revolutions of the forms and of the brush and the speed of passage of the forms across the brush surface must bear a proper relationship to each other and these move-- ments must be maintained constant during the entire operation to prevent the production of useless articles,
The positive maintenance of these three movements by my device will be evident upon a consideration of the accompanying drawin s. i I
It platform 53 with its rubber covered forms is placed upon the idlers 13, 13 and moved inwardly toward the device until it rests upon the carriers 31, 31 of the belts 30, 30, the links of the belts being forced into contact with the sides of the platform by means of the spring operated sprockets 35, 35, thus compensating for any inequalities of the platform and insuring a constant move ment of the platform. As the platform progresses the pinions 55, 55 mesh with the teeth of the first pair of rack sections, the revolution of the chain carryin the platform forward the pinions meshing with the successive sets of rack sections, the latter because of their resiliently. operative construction compensating for any inequality in the platform.
There is, therefore, a constant revolution of the forms and a constant note of movement of the forms across the face of the inclined brushes 20, 20.
When the lower portion of the brush abuts upon the face of the rubber the lower extremity of the latter is in the position A of F igure 7, and as the platform moves forwardly the brush produces an upwardly formed bead as indicated at B, C and D, this bead forming operation continuing until the rubber has passed beyond the upper end of the brush;
The platform then moves along the idlers 13, 13 and is removed for further operations of vulcanization and treatment.
It will thus be seen that my device presents a means whereby a constant and uniform speed of revolution may be obtained and retained between the forms and the brushes and whereby a constant and uniform speed of movement of the forms across the faces of the inclined brushes maybe obtained and retained.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, material or arrangement of parts as shown and described as these are given simply as a means for clearly describing my invention.
What I claim is 1. In a bead forming device, in combination, a revoluble form, a pinion the revolumoving said form causing said pinion to mesh with each rack section during the movement of said form and means capable of revolving said brush.
2. In a bead forming device, in combination, a revoluble form carrier, a form carried by said form carrier, a pinion carried by said form carrier and revoluble therewith, a plurality of separate rack sections forming a continuous rack said rack sections being meshable with said pinion, resilient means forcing each rack section into mesh with said pinion, a revoluble inclined brush capable of abutment upon said form during a movement of said form, means capable of moving said forms causing said pinion to mesh with each rack section during the movement of said forms and means capable of revolving said brush.

In a bead forming device, in combination, a movable platform, a plurality of extended revoluble forms carried by said platform, pinions the revolution of which will re volve said forms, a plurality of rack sections meshable with said pinions, resilient means forcing said rack sections into meshment with said pinions, a revoluble inclined brush abutable upon said forms during a movement of said platform, causing said pinions to mesh with said rack sections revolving said pinions and means capable of revolving said brush.

In a bead forming device, in combination, a movable platform, a plurality of extended revoluble forms carried by said platform, a run-way within which said platform is movable, a plurality of pinions the revolution of each one of which will revolve a form, a plurality of separate rack sections forming a continuous rack carried by said runway meshable with said pinions when said platform is moved within said run-way, resilient means carried by each said rack-section caus ing each said rack section to mesh with said pinions when said platform is moved within said run-way, means capable of moving said platform, a revoluble inclined brush abutable upon said forms during the passage of said latform through said run-way and means capable of revolving said brush.

In a bead forming device, in combination, a revoluble form, a pinion the revolution of whichwill revolve said form, a plurality of separate rack sections forming a continuous rack said rack sections being meshable with said pinion, resilient means forcing each rack section'into meshmen-t with said pinion, a revoluble inclined brush capable of abutment upon said form during movement of said form, means capable of moving said form causing said pinion to mesh with each rack section during the movement of said form, means capable of revolving said brush, means capable of varying the height andvinclination of said brush and means capable of fixing said brush insaid varying positions.

In a bead forming device, in combination, a movable platform, a plurality of extended revoluble forms carried by saidplatform, a run-Way within-which said platform is movable, a plurality of pinions the revolution of each one of which will revolve a form, a plurality of separate rack sections forming a continuous rack carried by said run-way meshable with said pinions when said platform is moved within said run-way, resilient meanscarried by each said raclcsection causing each said rack-section to'mesh with said pinions when said platform is moved within said run-way, meanscapable of moving said I platform, a revoluble inclined brush abutable upon said forms during the passage of said platform through said runsway, means capable of revolving said brush, means capable of varying the height and inclination of said brush and means capable of fixing saidbrush in said varying positions.
