Description

This/invention relates to shower bath constructions, and among other objects aims to provide an improved shower cabinet receptor and to faciliti-ate its manufacture.
The invention may be readily understood by reference to one construction embodying the invention and disclosed in the accompanying drawing.
In said drawing: Fig. 1 is a plan viewof a shower receptor. Fig. 2 is a transverse sec-tion on the plane 2-2 of' Fig. 1, showing the receptor and the lower portion of a superposed shower cabinet. Fig. 3 is a section similar to that of Fig. 2 but showing only one side of the receptor on Aan enlarged scale. Y Fig. 4 is a section similar to Fig. 3 but taken on the plane 4-4 of Fig. 1 at the entrance opening to the shower cabinet. Shower cabinets which are assembled at the point of installation upon a receptor, require not only a receptor which 1s accurately made to the dimensions of the cabinet but one which is capable of being joined tothe latter in a leak proof joint. Ifthe receptor is made at the point'of installation or cast in situ-ewhich can be done to advantage-, 1s must .be formed to accurate size, particularly if it is to have a pre-manufactured cabinet such as a sheet metal cabinet, erected upon and joined to it. Receptors of this character may advantageously be made from a decorative-cementitious material such as terrazzo, with or without additional pigments.
In the illustrative shower construction the walls 1() of the cabinet, which in this case are sheet metal, are joined to the receptor 11 by a base flange 12 having an angularly disposed locking extremity 13 which seats in a groove 4o 14 in the receptor. The/dimensions of the base flange, the extremity 13, and its relation to the base flange being fixed, the receptor. rim 15 must be shaped to exactly corresponding dimensions in order to secure a proper t and a tight leak proof joint.
' The foregoing receptor dimensions are in the present case determined by a preformed riml, inthis case of metal, which is shaped to conformy exactly to the aforesaid cabinet dimensions and which serves as a mold section for casting the receptor. As here shown, the aforesaid rim comprises a ledge 17 which is shown inclined to the vertical at an angle corresponding to the inclination of base flange 12 of the cabinet and which in this case forms the entire upper surface of the receptor sides. The rim structure also includes a section 18 which forms the groove 14 and which in this case is integrally connected with the ledge by connecting section 19 forming the inner face of the upper portion of the receptor sides.
.The lower edge of the rim is anchored in the plastic material forming vthereceptor by a .return flange 20 which extends inwardly from j the extremity of the lower face section 21 of .the rim. The rim is advantageously made up' exactly to the `dimensions of the cabinet-enclosure which in this case is square or rectangular in shape, and whenused asa part of the .receptor mold structure it insures the proper dimensioning ofthe rim or curb of the receptor. l g i `The cabinet side `walls 10 in this -case terminate'at spaced points 22 and 23 along one side of the receptor to provide an extrance nopening 24 into the shower cabinet.` The .ends of the flanges 13 of the shower cabinet engage abutments at the points 22 -and 23 to prevent their inward movement so as to hold the base flanges ofthe cabinet properly Vpositioned on the receptor nsides and in the groove 14. These'abutments inthe present case are provided by a metal channel shaped section 25 similar in character rto the rim 16 and conforming thereto in shape with the exception that it is not provided with portions 18 for .forming the groove 14. Thesection 25 thus embodies a portion 26 extending across the end `of the groove 14, providing strong abutments (at each end of the member 25, i. e. at
the points 22 and 23) for the ends of flanges 13 for the purposes aforesaid. Moreover the y cementitious material from which the retion in'which the receptor is to be placed. A series of receptors :may .be rcastinsitu by the use of a series of properly .abutted rims. Vwhich in such y.case may form the top surfaces-of .the sides ofthe combined receptors.
