Our invention relates to improvements in devices for refrigerating and dispensing carbonated beverage bottles and the like.
It has for one of its objects the provision of a cooling container adapted to receive a maximum number of bottles and to provide means for delivering a cooled bottle at the exit opening, which opening may also serve as an inlet opening for a bottle to be cooled. By the construction and arrangement ofour device upon the insertion of a warm bottle the mechanism is operated and the bottles are progressively moved through a cooling medium or chamber to cause a cooled bottle to occupy the position previously occupied by the inserted warm bottle so that it is in a position to be removed from a delivery openmg.
For the purpose of disclosing our invention we have illustrated an embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 is a plan view partly broken away, of a refrigerating dispenser embodying our invention; Fig. 2 a horizontal sectional view thereof; Fig. 3 a detail horizontal view and Fig. 4 a perspective view of the bottle propeller.
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated there is provided a suitable refrigerating receptacle 1, the spaced walls 2 and 3 of which may contain between the same a suit able insulating filler, as well as the spaced bottom walls 4 and 5. The top is removable and likewise is formed of spaced walls 6 and 7 between which suitable insulating material is placed.
Within the container there is provided a continuous channel preferably elongated on its sides and rounded at its end to provide a channel or passageway for the bottles. This channel is of sufiicient width to accommodate the average size bottle when placed in an upright position, and maintain the bottles in their vertical position. The channel preferably is provided with a bottom plate 8 supported and held in spaced'relation with respect to the bottom of the container. by the outer wall 9 of the bottle channel. This wall preferably has the elongated flat sides 10 and the rounded ends 11. The inner wall 12 of the channel is similar in shape to the outer wall, except that it is smaller in dimensions.
A vertical rotary shaft 13 is mounted at one having a pair of knife-edge legs 17. The pro peller 18 is formed integrally with this base and is provided with a flat face and a cam face 19. The base operates beneath the bottom 8 of the channel and is adapted to be engagedby the two fingers l4 and 15 while the propeller projects through an arcuate opening in the bottom 8 of the channel and in the path of the bottles contained in the channel.
The top of the container is provided with an opening 21 through which the bottles are removed and inserted and the shaft 13 is provided with an operating handle 22 mounted on a disk 23 secured to the shaft and provided with an opening 24 adapted in certain positions of the fingers 14 and 15 to coincide with the opening 21. v
In operation we can assume that the parts are in position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3. With the parts in this position we can assume that a warm bottle has been inserted through the coinciding openings 21 and 24. Under these circumstances the handle 22 is given a counter clockwise movement, thereby moving the opening 24 to a closed position and at the same time the finger 14 engaging the base 16 of the propeller 18 will move the propeller 18 and bottles in counter clockwise direction until a cold bottle is moved to a position beneath the opening 21. If it is now desired to remove a cold bottle from the refrigerator the handle 22 is moved in a clockwise direction until the openings 24 and 21 coincide. This can be done without affecting the movements of the bottles because of the lost motion relation between the finger 15 and the propeller base 16. After a cold bottle has been removed the clockwise movement of the handleis continued and this movement causes'the finger 15 to engage thepropeller base 16 and propel the same in a clockwise direction to the position illustrated in Fig. 3. When this has been accomplished the opening 21 is closed. To remove a bottle the handle is moved in a counter clockwise direction to cause the openings 21 and 24 to coincide and a warm bottle is dropped in position in front of the propeller 18, the cam surface 19 permitting the ready entry of the bottle so that a continued movement of the handle in a counter clockwise position will move the propeller in a counter clockwise direction and with it the row of bottles to again position a cold bottle beneath the opening 21. To remove this bottle the handle is moved in a clockwise direction to uncover the opening 21.
It is obvious that the container may be filled with cooling liquid and that the space between the inner walls of the channel may be filled with ice. Any other desired cooling means may be provided, however. Due to the fact that the container is practically filled with liquid, the bottles move freely through the channel with a minimum effort on the part of the operator as they are practically submerged in the liquid and are almost I claim as my invention 1. In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having acontinuous channel therein arranged to receive the bottles in side by side relation, said container having a single opening there-in through which the bottles are axially inserted and removed, of a propeller in said channel and a closure member for said opening and means for coincidentally moving said propeller and closure in two directions, said means permitting the closure to be moved independently of the propeller during a portion of its movement.

In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous channel adapted to receive the bottles in side b side relation and having a common sing e opening therein through which the bottles are axially inserted and removed, of a propeller in said channel and engagingthe last bottle of the row of bottles I to move the row forward, a closure for said opening and means for moving said propeller to move the bottles forward in the channel when the closure is moved to closed position in one direction'while permitting thepropeller to remain stationary during a portion of the movement of the closure in the opposite direction, and moving the propeller with the closure member during the rest of its movement. a
3. In a bottledispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous channel adapted to receive the bottles in side by side relation, a cover for said container for preventing access to said channel having a single opening therein through which the bottles are axially inserted and removed from said channel, of a propeller in to closed position in one direction and reversing the movement of the propeller when the closure is moved in the opposite direction while permitting the propeller to remain stationary during a portion of the last named movement of the closure.
4. In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous channel adapted to receive the bottles in side by side relation and having a single opening therein through which the bottles are axially inserted and removed, of a propeller in said channel for engaging and propelling the row of bottles there-through, a closure for said opening and means operated in one direction foroperating said closure member to close the opening and operating said propeller to propel the bottles through the channel and operated in the opposite direction for moving said closuremember to open position and by a continued movement in said opposite direction retracting said propeller;

In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuouschannel adapted to receive the bottles in s'.de by side relation and having a single opening therein through which the bottles are axially inserted and removed, of a propeller in said channel for propelling the bottles therethrough and a closure member for said opening, 'means for moving said closure member in one direction past open position and simultaneously operating said propeller to move the bottles through the channel and for moving said closure member past open. positionin the opposite direction for retracting said propeller, said means leaving the propeller unafi'ected durng the movements of said closure member to open position in either direction.
6. In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous chann'el adapted to receive the bottles in side by side relation and having a single opening through which the bottles are axially insertedand removed, of a propeller in said channel engaging an inserted bottle in the channel to propel the row of bottles therethrough, a closure member for said openlng, means for operating said closure member and a lost motion connection between said operating means and the propeller.

In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous channel adapted to receive the bottles in side by side relation and having a single opening therein through which the hottles are axially inserted and removed, of a propeller in said channel for engaging an inserted bottle and progressively moving said row of bottles therethrough, a closure member for said opening, lost motion means for operatively connecting said closure member and propeller, the lost motion connection connecting the closure member and propeller when the closure member is moved from open to closed position in one direction to move the bottles through the'channel, and
when the closure member is operated in an opposite direction towards open position, permitting an independent movement of the closure member for a portion of its travel whereby the propeller will remain stationary for a portion of the travel of the closure member and retracted during the rest of its movement. v
8. In. a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a eontinuous channel therein arranged to receive the bottles in side by side relation, of a propeller in said chamlel, means for closing the a top of the channel having a single 0 ening therein through which bottles may inserted in and removed from the channel and an oscillatory closure member for said channel having a bottle dispensing opening therein and means for coincidently moving said propeller and closure member in two directions, said means permitting the closure member to be moved independently of the propeller during a portion of its movement in one direction. In a bottle dispensing refrigerator the combination with a container having a continuous channel adapted to receive the bottles in side by side relation, of a ropeller in said channel engaging the last of of bottles to move the-same forward, a cover member having a bottle dispensing opening therein and means for moving said propeller to move the bottles forward in the channel when the cover member is moved in one direction and reversing the movement of the propeller when the cover is .moved in the opposite direction while permitting the propeller to remain stationary fora portion of said movement of the cover member.
