Description

L. REICHMANN.
DOLL-HEAD.
Patented Feb. 6,1877.
1m: wit u v.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
LAZARUS REIOHMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOLL-HEADS.
V Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,] 73, dated February 6, 1877; application filed January 2, 1877.
. To all whom it may concern:
. and paraffine for the outer layer and an inner layer of papie.r-macll, and it is found that the composition of bees-wax and paraffine is liable to crack, and the papier-mach does not firmly adhere to the external layer, so that it soon begins to peel off, and the head is crushed in by a slight pressure or blow.
My dolls heads are made of an outer layer, a, of bees-wax, paraffine, and Venetian turpentine, the turpentine being added for the purpose of preventing said outer layer from cracking. This outer layer is strengthened and supported by an inner layer, b, of sawdust, glue, and paste, such as flour-paste, these ingredients being mixed together, so as to form a semi-fluid mass, which can be applied to the interior surface of the outer shell by means of a brush, and which can be easily spread uniformly over said interior surface, so thatall the parts of the outer layer will be properly supported. After this inner layer has been formed, it is left to dry, and when dry it adheres firmly to the outer layer, and it is not liable to peal off.
For these reasons, my dolls heads retain their original appearance and strength for a long time.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A dolls head composed of an outer layer or shell made of bees-wax, parafline, and turpentine, and an inner supporting-layer made of sawdust, glue, and a suitable paste, such as flour-paste, substantially as herein described.
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day'of December, 1876.
