The present invention is particularly adapted for use as a containerfor fruit and j vegetables, or the like, and byits improved,
construction provides a container within which the fruit or vegetables ma be shipped without bruising, cutting, or ot er injuries,
such as are usually sustained 'in thefuse of theconventional basket now in use. For closing the ends of the cylindrical body, there is provided a pair of end members of improved construction. The device is seen to be double ended andthe end inembers are uniform so that either end may be used as the top of the device, the end .members being similarl secured and similarly removable. The en members include an upper and a lower central cross strip 20 and 21,
` respectively. The upper cross strip 2Q is provided with parallel stripsy 22 on either side, which lie under thev under cross strip 21. The
cross strip 21 is provided with parallel strips 23 on either side, which are7 positioned under both the cross strip 20 and its parallel strips 22. Associated with the extremities of the strips 20 and 22, beveled terminal members 24 are provided, which form in conjunction with similar terminal members 25 carried by the ends of the strips 21 and 23, an internal substantially continuous rim-engagiiig flange for the cover member, the beveled edge of which is adapted to be in supporting contact with the inner surface of the slats 10. It will be understood that the endsof the strips are suitably secured by nailing or stapling to the terminal members 24 and 25, and that, if desired, other securement may be provided betweenthe various strips. For securing the end members to the body, the strips 2O and 21 extend beyond the terminal members 24 and 25, respectively, the extending ends 26 of which are adapted to be received through securing handles 27 which are carried b the edges of the body, it beingl understood t at the strips 20 and 21 are sufficiently flexible to permit them to be iiexed in order to be positioned through the loops From the foregoing it will readily be seen that the present invention provides an improved c lindrical container havin -a side wall section adapted to be shippe in fiat form, together with novel and improved reinforcing means for the side section which may be used for securing the section in cylindrical form, and further provides an improved protector adapted to be carried by the side reinforcing members. It will be understood 'that the present invention is not confined to K the specific structural detailsv herein presented, but that numerous changes,
modifications,and the full use'of equivalents may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as out lined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A container of the class described, comprising, a ybendable wall section including vertical slatsnand longitudinally-extending outer reinforcing strips, said wall section ffurther including inner bendable connecting .protecting material supported y and between said bendable members.
2. A container of the class described, comprising a bendable wall section including vertical slats; and longitudinally-extending outer reinforcing strips, said wall section further including inner bendable. connecting and reinforcing members therefor, one end of said strips extending beyond the end slat to provide or, the overlapping connection thereof with the opposite end of said strips, staples adapted to secure said slats with said strips and said bendable members, and a protector carried byt the inner face of said wall section, said protector comprising a sheet of protecting material supported by and between said bendable members, one of the' longitudinal ends of said protector extendin be ond the vertical sl-ats to overlap said en able members whenthe container is in cylindrical form.
3. A container of the class described, comrising a wall section of cylindrical form, including vertical slats, external securing strips, internal securing wires, and protecting means on the inner faceof said wall section, said protecting means comprising a sheet of protecting material supported by and between said wires.
4. A container of the class described, comprising awall section of cylindrical form, in-
