UNITED STATES PATENT DFFICE EDWARD D. GIRD, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN ICE-LOADING STATIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,125, dated February 6, 1877 application filed July 8, 1874.
To all whom 2t may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD D. GIRD, of the city of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Refrigerator- Oars and Devices for Icing the Same, the whole constituting a system for the transportation of perishable articles requiring a reduced temperature for their preservation, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is a railroad icestation arranged to overhang the track, for conveniently supplying refrigerator-cars with me.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a sectional view of my ice-station, showing the ice-crib and platform. Fig. 2 is an end view, showing the operation of charging a car with ice, and representing the device by means of which the result is accomplished.
E represents the house or reservoir for the ice; P, projection to same overhanging the pared and deposited in the crib. The sliding door at the bottom of the crib is then drawn back by means of the rod connecting it with the wheel W, and the ice allowed to drop into its receiver within the car.
By means of this arrangement refrigeratingcars may be rapidly and easily supplied with ice. This station may also be used for loading other cars with ice.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is
For storing and supplying ice to refrigerator-cars, the station E, provided with the projecting crib P, extending over the track, having the dumping device W and platform J, all constructed and arranged substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
