Description
July 5, 1 932. K. WINKLERI 1,865,991
CENTRIFUGAL MULTI STAGE I MIXING APPARATUS Filed July 14, 1930 I ATTORNEY8 Patented .Buly 5, 1932 STATES PATENT OFFICE KURT WINKLER, FRANKENTHAL/PFALZ, GER-MANY, ASSIGNOR TO I. G. FABBENIN- DUSTBIE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT, OF FRANKFORT-ON-THE-MAIN, GERMANY CEN'I'RIFUGAL MULTISTAGE MIXING APPARATUS application filed July 14, 1930, Serial No. 467,881, and in Germany July 13, 1929.
lhis invention relates to multi-stageturbomixers. In my U. S. Patent No. 1,727,152 I have described a multistage mixing apparatus in which the paddle wheels of the single t mixers are connected in series and conduits extend from the outlet sides of the first, secm said liquids.
The present invention provides means for doing away with this inconvenience. The improved apparatus is illustrated, byway of example, in the annexed drawing, of which Fig. 1 is a vertical cross-section along the axis of the machine, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section along the line 11-11 of Fig. 1.
The improved mixing apparatus comprises a part forming the bottom of a casing and a part 9 forming the cover on said casing; part 10 is traversed by a rotatable axis 11 connected with a disc 4.
Number 1 is the inlet pipe for the liquid; 2 and 3 are members consisting of bars or tubes grouped so as to form diaphragms for guiding the liquid to paddlewheels comprisingelements 201, 202 and 211, 212, mounted on the disc 4, said members of the diaphragms being separated from one another by slots as shown in Fig. 2 at 2 2 and 31, and forming two circles around the axis of the machine. In the inner and outer groups of paddle wheels a certain number of blades or paddles 201 and 202, and 211 and 212 are held in annular disposition on the disc 4, fixed by ring plates 14 and 15 to form a kind of cage. Throu h the members 2 and 3 passages 5 and 6 are ored, for instance above the inlet pipe 1, which communicate on the one hand, with a sickleshaped or annular space 7' on top of the cover 9 of the mixer, through which space the gas is introduced, and ending on the other hand, by fine outlet openings 8 through which the gas is finely distributed and injected into the liquid, preferably in such a direction that it is rapidly carried away by the liquid penetrating the slots.
For introducing gases which are absorbed rather slowly preferably only one of the diaphragms 3 is provided with gas leading passages, so that the inner paddle wheel comprising elements 201 and 202 conveys only pure liquid without gas. Hereby an excessive feed of gas (which would result in an interruption of the supply of liquid) is avoided.
I claim:
1. In a multi-stage apparatus of the turbine or centrifugal type for mixing, stirring and emulsifying liquids and provided, in the single mixers, with paddle wheels connected in series, the structure which comprises in combination a diaphragm positioned closely to and circularly around the axis of the apparatus, and one or more further diaphragms circularly positioned around the axis of the apparatus and separated from the first diaphragm and from each other by paddle wheels connected in series, all diaphragms having slots for guiding the liquid from the inlet pipe of the apparatus to the paddle wheels, and the remaining parts of the diaphragms which form bars or tubes being pro vided with passages communicating on one side with a gas chamber, mounted on the cover of the apparatus, and ending on the other side in fine outlet openings to convey a gas stream into the liquid moved by the paddle wheels.
2. In a multi-stage apparatus of the turbine or centrifugal type for mixing, stirring and emulsifying liquids and provided, in the single mixers, with paddle wheels connected in series, the structure which comprises in combination a diaphragm positioned closely to and circularly around the axis of the apparatus, and one or more further diaphragms circularly positioned around the axis of the apparatus and separated from the first diaphragm and from each other by paddle wheels connected in series, diaphragms having slots for guiding the liquid from the inlet i of the apparatus to the paddle wheels and e remaining arts of one of the diaphragms which form are or tubes being provided with passages communicating on one side with a gas chamber, mounted on the cover of the apparatus, and ending on the other side in fine outlet openings to convey a gas stream into the liquid moved by the addle wheels.
to In testimony whereo I aflix m signature.
