IMPROVEMENT IN INDICATORS FOR DRAWING LIQUIDS FROM BOTTLES Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,400, dated January 16, 1877; application iiled May 13, 1876.
To all lwhom 'it may concern Be it known that I, IsrDoR LEVI, of Gincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Indicator for Drawing Liquid from Bottles and other uses, of which the t'ollowingis a specification:
My invention relates to a register for the furnishing of a record-ot' the number of discharges from a bottle ot' liquor or other liquid, whereby a check is furnished against the temptation of bar-keepers to make dishonest returns; and my invention consists of a specific combination ot' registering Wheels, ratchet wheel and pawl, spring' connecting-lever, and an incased operating-Weight, the whole constitutin g a form adaptable to the corks of ordinary liquor-bottles.
Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken on the lines c and y y of Fig. l, which is a side elevation of my invention as applied to the neck of a bottle.
A is the neck of a bottle, provided with cork B, the latter being furnished with an outlet-tube, O, ot' any desired form. Secured upon the cork B or the top of the bottle A is a doubIe-chambered case, D D'. The chamber D is cylindrical in forni, and has an upright position, while the chamber D is a attened elongated box, resting sidewise upon the top ot' chamber D. Fitted to slide in chamber D is a weight, E, having a projection, e, to connect with a hinged lever, I, in the chamber D. F G are dial-wheels,
fitted to connect with a pinion on the shaft of a ratchet-wheel, H. The wheel H is guarded against back motion by the spring-pawl h. On the end of lever I is a spring-hook, t', which engages against the teeth of the ratchet-wheel H.
Operation: Now, when the bottle is inverted, so that the inclosed liquor will run out at the mouth O, it will be evident that the weight E will, by the force of gravity, move to the opposite end of chamber D, and thereby so move lever I that the hook i will engage with the next tooth in the ratchet-wheel H; and when the position ot' the bottle is reversed again, rotate the ratchet around the distance ot' one tooth, as the weight descends to its normal position. i
Having thus described myv invention, I claim- The combination, substantially as specified, of the gravitating body E, the ratchet-engaging-lever I t, ratchetwheel H, and pawl-andindex wheels, the whole being suitably incased, as described, so as to be wholly separated from the channel through which the liquor Hows.
