This invention relates to a water purifier particularly applicable for the purifying of which is easy to assemble or disassemble for cleaning and which is not likely to be broken in ordinary use or cleaning.
Still another object is to provide a novel means of holding the water in the charcoal bed for a period of time so that it is clarified.
A further advantageof my construction is that there are no pockets of water which remain in the cup, but with my arrangement the water is always drained from the lowest point.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description and the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my purifier.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary, bottom plan view of the filter plate.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a stand of any usual and well known construction upon which the water purifier and cooling assembly 2 rests. An olla 3 rests upon the stand 1 and the purified and clarified water drops into the olla and is cooled therein. A fawcet 4 permits the water to be drained from the olla as needed. A crock 5 rests upon the top of the olla 3 and this crock is impervious to water. A cover 6 closes the top of the crock and the crock is filled by removing the cover as will be readily understood. The lower edge of the crock rests upon an annular rubber packing ring 7, which ring rests upon a ground surface on the top of the olla. The purpose of this ring is to prevent the leakage of water around the bottom of the crock as will be further described, and also to prevent dust from entering the olla.
An inwardly extendingshoulder 8 is integrally formed on the inside of the crock 5, and an apron 9 depends from the shoulder 8. The purpose of the apron is todirect the water downwardly and inwardly into a cup 10. A plate 11 which is formed of a filter stone, rests on the shoulder 8 and is cemented on said shoulder. The water in the crock 5 filters through the plate 11 and is directed into the cup 10 by the apron 9. The apron 9 preferably converges inwardly so that the flow of water, is towards the center of the cup. The plate 11 is provided with a multi: plicityof intersecting grooves 12 inthe lower surface thereof. The purpose of these grooves is to break up the lower surface so that drops of, water cannot form on the bottom of the plate and run towards the edge of the plate, That is, with my arrangement the water filters through the plate and drops downwardly from the entire lower surface thereof. To further break up the surface, and prevent drops of water from collecting at one edge, I provide shallow holes 13 so that the water will strike the edge thereof and will drop off. The holes 13 are provided both in the grooves 12 and in the raised areas of the plate. I v p The cup 10 is filled with charcoal, gravel or other purifying and clarifying agentsli. In order to decolorize or otherwise clarify the water, it must be held for an appreciable time in the clearin strata. For this purpose, a plurality of osse-s are cast on the inside of the cup 10. Through each of the bosses I provide upwardly inclined ducts or water passages 16. These passages extend from adjacent the bottom of the cup 10 to a point adjacent the upper edge of the cup, and pass entirely through the wall so that the water is emitted adjacent the upper edge and drops down into the olla.

aerated so that my assembly has the following actions upon water: It purifies, aerates, clarifies and cools. The ducts or passages 16 may be pipes cast into the cup 10, or they may be holes drilled through the bosses 15. The cup 10 is impervious to water and the only outlet therefrom is through the ducts or passages 16.
The cup 10 is provided with a flange 17 in the upper end thereof, which flange rests upon the ground surface on the top of the olla. It will be evident that by merely removing the crock, the cup and its contents will beexposed and the charcoal or other filter agent can be cleansed or replaced, and the f entire purifier again reassembled with a minimum of labor. Also there are no loose parts 7 which can be easily broken by moving the purifier about. i

will be evident that the lower parts of the cup will be drained so that there can be no water pocket formed in the cup. It is very difficult to set the purifier absolutely level, so in the majority of cases the water will collect at one side of the cup, but this is no detriment in my arrangement because there will always ing apron from said shoulder, said cup'having outlet ducts therein through which the water flows, said ducts extending upwardly and outwardly through the wall of said cup and from adjacent the bottom of the cup to adjacent the top thereof.

A water purifier com'prising an olla, a crock resting on the top of said olla, a packing ring between said crock and the olla, a cup resting on the top of the olla, a filter plate in the crock above the cup, said cup being adapted to contain a filter agent, the walls of said cup having a plurality of ducts extending therethrough, said ducts extending upwardly and outwardly through the cup, and from adjacent the bottom of the cup to adjacent the top thereof.
8. A water purifier comprising an olla, a crock resting on said olla, a cup resting on the upper surface of said olla, a filter plate above said cup, a shoulder on which said filter plate rests and a downwardly extending apron from said shoulder, said cup having outlet ducts therein through which the water flows, said filter plate having a multiplicity of intersecting grooves in the lower surface thereof.
