My invention more particularly relates to a cap for a fountain pen, although its use is not necessarily limited thereto.
When a cap for a fountain pen is formed of trans arent or translucent material, ink is trans erred from the pen point to the interior of the receptacle near the end thereof in removing and replacing the cap on the pen Vbarrel and over the pen point. The interior of the end of the cap thus becomes smeared with ink, which is unsightly when it can be seen from the exterior of the cap, as is the case when the cap is transparent o r translucent. y My invention provides meansl for concealing the unsightly appearance above referred to.
My invention will best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which I have illustrated one embodiment of my invention, and in which Fig. 1 is a side view of a fountain pen with a cap embod ing my invention in position on the holder o the pen; Fig. 2 isa sectional view through the cap formed on its outer side at one end with a recess which is adapted to receive a dark band; Fig. 3 is a sectlonal view'through the dark band, ywith a metal band thereon which is adaptedy to be received on the end of the cap, and Fig. 4 is asectional view through the cap complete.

Referring now to the drawing, 10 is a barrel or holder of a fountain pen, the point of which is indicated in Fig. 1 in dotted lines at 101, and on one end of which is received a cap 11.
In removing and replacing the cap of a fountain pen on the pen barrel, ink is transferred from the pen to the interior of the cap at one end as at 12 which, when the cap is formed of transparent or translucent material, is visible and unsightly from the outside.
The cap 11 is recessed at. one end as at 1 3, and is adapted to receive a band 14 formed of a dark color, preferably-black. The band 14 may be secured in position in any desired so manner on the recess 13, but is preferably made integral with the cap by a material which is a solvent both for the cap and for the band which, in the case of Celluloid, may be acetone. The solvent may be applied to the exterior of the recess 13, or to the interior of the band 14, or to both, and when the band, which forms a fairly tight fit on the recessed end of the cap, is placed in position, the band becomes integral with the cap. One end of the band 14 is preferably pro- 6 vided with a recess 15 on which is received a perforated metal band 16 for ornamental purposes. y
The band 14 is referably of thesame thickness as the shoul er 17 formed on the cap, so 65 that the periphery of the band (including the metal band) is flush with the outer surface of the cap as indicated in Fig. 4.
Itwill be apparent that my invention provides a simple and effective means for concealing the unsightly ink which inevitably accumulates on the interior of the cap of a fountain pen and at one end thereof, and which is normally visible when the cap is formed of a light transparent material.
I claim:
'1. A receptacle for a pen point formed of light transmitting material and provided with an opaque band overlying the portion of the interior of the receptacle which 1s liable 80 to be soiled by ink transferred thereto from the penpoint.
2. A ca for a fountain pen, said cap being formed o a light transmitting material and recessed on the outer part thereof which overlies the innerportion of the rece tacle which is liable to be soiled by ink transibrred thereto by the pen point, and a band material secured in said recess. A
